Driver door not shutting

Hi Guys,

Just a quick one for you all, my car door doesnt always shut when I close it. It will just bounce back as if the seatbelt is there, but it isnt...

Basically assuming its the latch getting stuck in the up position so it wont be able to catch the bar to keep it closed? Would this be a simple hairdryer and WD40 trick and be done with it for the time being or should i just get the latch replaced?

Might also be that the 'catch bar' on the car body is a little too far inwards and the compression of the door seal makes it harder for the door to reach the latch position. See if it always latches with a hard slam or always doesn't with a gentle one.

if I pull the door after it doesn't catch, it then locks

Please note the WD40 is a water dispersant / penetrating release fluid. Excellent to get things free and moving again but it is not a lubricant.

After getting the latch moving again use 3in1 oil to fully lubricate the lock.

As above although I tend to use GT85 as the lubricant (which is made by WD-40, lol).

I've noticed my dealer tends to put vaseline looking stuff on my car's bonnet latch when it's serviced.

I use spray white grease for latches personally.  But any excess does leave an unsightly mess so try to wipe that off straight away.
