The government has had 20 years to act on this issue, today's announcement was pretty disgusting. Far too little, far far too late... Bless ITV for bringing it to the world's attention!

I know I'm late to the party, but just caught up with this show. Must confess that I wanted to slap the owner of this 306! All niggly faults, but why would someone ignore them? Faulty door mirror, lea

Correct 😜

Ken Stott (Bob) just about yells it...

"There's been a Murd!" 🙈

Another 👍 for the latest iteration of Rebus. Having avidly read the novels and the related "Complaints" books I thought it brought the various threads together very well.

A friend of mine didn't like the violence but he's only seen the TV versions and didn't appreciate how "dark" the actual novels are in places.

Didn't diminish my admiration for the Ken Stott version at all.

My only reservation is would such a character last 5 minutes in the politically correct world of today? Would it have been better to set it in the 80's when Rebus was actually still a DS?

Yep I agree, World's apart in a relatively short space of time... I'd love to see John Rebus as a DS and all the attitudes and goings on of that era.

John Rebus is a complex character, he's brudy, relentless and carries certain burdens etc but under the thick hard exterior is an almost soft centered caring guy. I'm not sure that this latest installment quite captured all of this... however there's plenty of time for future series to explore this 🤞🤞

The books are fantastic. I listen to the audiobooks read by James McPherson, I can't Reccomend them enough.

With any 'Tartan Noir' darkness and grittyness are never going to be far away.... add John Rebus into the mix and It's a dead cert.

I haven't got around to the complaints yet but I will.

I can't help but picture Ken Stott when listening to Rebus... he's just perfect. In the 1995 film Shallow Grave Ken Stott plays a Detective and he was in my mind DI Rebus even though we didn't know it yet lol

Like you i'm a reader of the Ian Rankin books and was wary of the new season of Rebus, but thoroughly enjoyed it. But for me, Ken Stott will always be Rebus 😀

Watched Crime as well but didn't notice any Rebus or Taggart references 🤔

The references for me was Series 1 Episode 1 Seen 1. I think it's Drummond Place in Edinburgh this was also the Location in The ITV episode 'The Black Book' where Rebus goes to see his Therapist. Also at least one character name, Lumsden (DI from Aberdeen - 'Black and Blue' book)

There's more I'm sure... watch this space lol

Are you up to date with the books?

I'm catching up...

Great to meet more Rebus fans 👍

If there's still time, I'd suggest reading the Malcolm Fox novels ("The Complaints" and "The Impossible Dead") before the later Rebus novels. Iirc Fox first appears in the main Rebus sequence in "Saints of the Shadow Bible".

It's not essential but it does clarify who Fox is when he joins the main thread, as it were.

I think I've missed a couple of the later ones but have read most of them. My problem is that the only time I read books is when I go to bed and I can only read for about 5 minutes before I fall asleep! 🤣

Being a long time petrol head, I like things such as Wheeler Dealers, Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars, and such like. I used to like Top Gear, but when it turned into an entertainment show, rather than, as was, a motoring magazine show, I lost interest.

My other TV interests are more science/documentary based, rather then drama, but I did get into Life On Mars as well as Peaky Blinders, and Breaking Bad was (IMHO) simply epic!

I'm looking forward to the 2nd half of the BTCC, which kicks off at the end of this month.

Being a child of the 70s, I grow up with things such as Steptoe and Son and Dad's Army as well as the other popular TV shows that my parents liked to watch: there was little else to do, back then.

The only streaming service I use is Netflix, as there's usually something worth seeing. That aside, I've a bunch of YT channels that I like to see, mostly computer tech based, with a slant towards retro gear (which was not retro, when I used it back in the day).

I watched a couple of episodes last week of The Sweeney! My god, no political correctness at all, and plenty of nudity - I loved it!!

ITV didn't even issue one of their woke warnings at the start - I was traumatised the whole day 🤣

Last month, saw the trailer for, 'Douglas is Cancelled' and invested the time to watch the 4 parter on ITV. It was a long wait to get to the very last 10 minutes.  Had Hugh Bonneville in it (I liked him in the Paddington movies and Downton Abbey). Also Karen Gillan whom I really liked as Amy Pond in Dr Who).

The trailer portrayed a witty modern drama, of a TV presenter who is hammered on Twitter for a drunken joke, and in the modern woke world, is 'cancelled'.

The only real humour was shown in the initial trailer. The story  revolves round the bunny boiler obsession of his young co presenter, the very attractive Karen. Although cancel culture is a topical subject, I thought it was poorly told, with a weak script but the ending was entertaining . So if you were wondering if you should get it on catch up - you're bound to find something else more entertaining, unless like me you like Karen!

The High Street Shops We Loved & Lost - Ch5 (ep1 of 2)

If you remember, Radio Rentals, Woolworths, Pic&Mix,  Ratners, Burtons, High Street Banks (before apps), Access credit cards, Rumbleows, Green Shield Stamps (Mk1 Ford Escort = 950 books!), C&A, Top Man, 'four candles', Wimpy Bar, then this show will be a touch of nostalgia for you, I loved it, right up my street having spent my whole career in retail...

I believe there are some Wimpy bars still in operation. I know we frequented the one at Swiss cottage in 1981 when we went to see ELO at Wembley for the Time tour. Only spoiled by them doing a tribute to John Lennon people actually boo'd

There's 3 Wimpys in Scotland apparently. We've been to the one in Dingwall 😀

Myself and my partner got hooked on the 1st 4 x series of a show that was watchable on Sky, but they dropped the final series 5 which was very disappointing. On research it is being streamed on a subscription channel.

It made me do the back of an envelope of how much watching TV actually costs these days if you want access to all shows...

Subscription TV
•    Amazon Prime Video    £7.99
•    Apple TV+                     £9.99
•    Disney Plus                   £7.99
•    Netflix                            £4.99 (with ads)
•    NOW                              £9.99
•    ITVX                              FREE
Sky                                      £19
BBC                                     £13 (Mandatory if you watch 'live' TV)
                    £73/month = £876/year

I remember growing up with just 3 x channels LOL

All channels free if you know what your doing including a licence, apologies if this info is frowned upon.

While am her I've now caught 2 episodes of RDJ [ Robert Downey Junior ] Dream Cars. No dirty hands or spanners well  very little but highly engrossing, i caught it on Quest but must be available elsewhere. He discusses all things motoring with some amazing people.

Highly recommended

I'm aware of the 'free' channel outlet, but sadly, series 5 of the 'Fringe' returns no links whatsoever.

I also caught by accident that RDJ show, highly entertaining that 'Riv' resto! That 'futurist' 'inventor' guest he had on was sheer genius!

dare i say the word torrents, just looked and available

 Apologies admin

Don't know if any of you have been watching Flintoff's cricket tour on BBC1?  I'm not a fan of cricket but it's genuinely really interesting.  Nice uplifting show that proves the modern world isn't as full of ar*eholes as the media would have us believe.  Half way through the series now but I'm sure the previous ones will be available on iPlayer.

It was really interesting to see the absolute lack of experimentation that many of them had with the local cuisine. I adore food, and would have tried every dish that was set before me, it all looked very tasty & great!

There wasn't a single piece of food there I'd have attempted!
