do indie places just go around randomly flushing engines?

Yes, the one we use has always used flush in our Mk2.5 and I never bothered about it. When I put the Ecoboom in to them I expected them to know not to use it but they did anyway. When I questioned it they said Forte claimed it was compatible with the wetbelt. I didn't believe that but as it was due for a belt change anyway before the next service I got rid.

I'm going to tell them not to use it on the Mk2.5 next time. It's only doing about 2K between services so the oil never gets dirty.

I certainly don't either, just googled the topic and that came up. Pretty familiar stuff. Interesting though that Ford claimed (assuming I heard It right) that the failure rate was "less than 0.01%" !

Just checking the clip again and Matt did say that. Hard to find a total production figure but a Ford press release I found said 1.6 million had been sold 2012-2019. After that the chain drive version

  • Just checking out PumaSpeed sales of replacement Ecoboom 1.0 engines and they claim to have sold 468. Of course we have no way of knowing why 468 owners decided to fit a new engine but I'd like to bet

I bet you also added a sachet of windscreen wash too at an exorbitant price, that use to really p*ss me off at a main dealer service LOL

Me too. I always ensure my screenwash is full to the brim when I drop the car off, then see what they do! To be fair, I've often seen screenwash on the bill and then found an unused bottle in the car when I get in.

Yep, quite a few garages will just use "whatever oil they have in bulk" and engine flushes as an added upsell.

Fortunately, the indie Ford dealer I got the car from is very trustworthy and before selling me the car gave me the full rundown on the reputation of the engines and reassured me of their practises, so I'm happy to take it back to them annually for the MOT and service.

I've just picked up oil, filter and sump plug to do on mine this weekend, the correct Ford Castrol WSS-M2C948-B spec oil and a genuine FoMoCo filter and plug.

I always planned to do 6 monthly oil changes regardless, just so happens that with my current job I've done 8k miles in 6 months so I think it works out quite nicely time / mileage wise.
