  • Day 339 of the disc and pads replacement and the story rolls on, the brakes don't work 🤣 Just think if it took a Ford dealer this long and it was £960 per day the job would have cost £325,44

Search your exact car either at a decent car parts supplier or Ebay.

What you don't need is high performance discs & pads designed for sport use, you don't want raw steel budget brake discs as they'll be a mass of rust within three months, you need Ferodo discs & matching pads, the type with the silver anti-rust coating.

GSF are very good, full set of front pads and discs just knocked me back £97 for my BMW X2.

They very often have 65% off

many thanks guys

as soon as i see some then i will post it up on here to see if they would be ok.

I did a bit of a research myself but haven't bought yet as I still have some life in pads. I decided to go for a Ferodo combination. Can't remember why in the end. Perhaps because I read that they are (with some product lines) matching OE quality level. Anyhow, I'd go for Ferodo if best available technology but without being considered "performance upgrade" is what you're after.

I'd also look for a place near you where they do turning on the wheel and on the car. I am not sure 100% how this is called in English as it's not my native tongue. I've found skimming which essentially does the same job but with the purpose of extending your disc life. Not a big money saving but good for the environment. It only works with discs which are not warped or too warn but rusted on surface or similar. The reason why I would do it is to assure perfect fit of your discs and pads, especially if both are high quality and long life.

The skimming process actually thins the disc, which affects cooling performance. For the cost of discs I would not recommend it. Just put new discs and pads on each time

ok guys, i couldnt find the gsf brake pads and disc so i have settled on ferodo ones.

i went for the most expensive ones on the autodoc website as people said dont go cheap on the brake system.

brake disc

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ferodo/7557786

brake pads

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ferodo/11197102

for the brake pads i went for the second expensive ones as the most expensive ones was a different shape, mine needed the 2 prongs that sticks out.

hope these are ok for my car.

thank you 🙂

people been telling me to get ones that rae quite expensive so wasnt too sure about these.

many thanks again.

i might be thinking too much into this but do i need to do anything before putting the disc and brake pads on?

like when i buy new drums, i have read that it would need scoring on the inside, do i need to do anything on the disc or is it just a case of putting them on as normal?

That brand is just ECP's own.  Basically the equivalent of Tesco Value brake parts.  I wouldn't bother changing them unless going for a decent brand personally.  Cheap pads can be noisy and dusty.  Buy cheap, buy twice.

If you buy cheap discs you'll need to degrease them with brake cleaner before fitting.  If you buy more expensive discs, they generally come painted so there's no prep necessary.  More expensive pads also come with a 'break-in' coating on them that helps bed in more effectively.

Cleaning up both the hub/disc contact patch and the caliper/pad contact patch with a small wire brush should help prevent the pads getting stuck and avoid fitting the disc slightly wonky.

do you think i should just go for the link from autodoc further up the post? they are more expensive so should already have paint on them.

I wouldn't pay that much for the AutoDoc Ferodo ones personally.  Discs are sold individually so you're looking at £120 for the pair on there. 😮

I prefer Pagid myself, but wouldn't pay ECP price for them.  I'd find the part number and then see how cheaply I could get them elsewhere.  But I am as tight as a ducks bottom...

I will have another look for pagid ones then put the links up on here.

Just checked, Pagid seem to be exclusive to ECP now.  (ECP gobble up car parts brands like Sports Direct do clothing brands!)

If not Pagid, then either Bosch or Brembo should be fine from ECP.  Not sure if they both come painted though.  AutoDoc shows which discs are painted in the extra info section.  Though there's such a large range on there it's difficult to know which to choose.

I think this is the correct pair of Pagid discs for your car.  Remember to use the discount code SUN15 to get the pair for £73.

And the set of pads.  Again, use the code SUN15 to get them for £34.

It's up to you whether you want to risk those or not.  But that's the cheapest I can find for the ones that I think are correct.
