They have to use an apparent random sequence of letters, as all normal names are probably copyright.....

With the rider that such a word may be polite in English, but rude in a different language !

Most car manufacturers are not from native English speaking countries.

A lot of these names are words, places or slight deviations from other languages and countries.

Or just something that sounds good in the language of the country it was originally thought up. They'll only check it's not offensive in other languages.

Yes those 'silly' names for cars come from countries that don't speak or understand English too good.

I mean. Kadjar? Is that a car keeping a door open? 🤣

It would have to have an escort for a safe delivery.

Felicia, like Octavia, is a girls name.  Both are names previously used by Skoda. Strangely they didn’t make a new Estelle 👀

Basically the marketers sometimes make something up or modify an existing word so that they can register a trademark.  For example

https://www.renaultgroup.com/en/news-on-air/top-stories-2/there-once-was-a-car-named-austral/

Other manufacturers of course name their cars after things (Qashqai - an Iranian tribe), a theme (Jetta, Passat) or just give them a number or letter designation (BMW, Mercedes, VW electric range).  Personally I’d rather a car had a name, even a made up one, than be called “ZS”. Though I do feel they over think this stuff sometimes!
