2019 ford galaxy heated front screen not working

pressing the front heated screen none of that happens

I think the problem is geographical.

Drive North and when you get to Durham your heated front screen will work perfectly. 👍

It's 5oC outside in Durham at the moment and will fall to around 3oC by 2:00AM 🙄

With all respect to all suggestion 'fixes', the car still has some warranty left on it. The owner should not be pottering around with relays etc. Just take it back to the darn garage and get them

  • I can certainly confirm that on the two Ford Galaxy's that I owned (twenty years ago), the heated front screens did not work if the outside temperature was above 7oC As for more recent Ford's I s

Morning it was 2 degrees out this morning with ice on the window and it’s definitely not working 🙁

Is the outside temperature reading on the car working?

I think there's only one relay for the screen so might be worth checking that.  Also not sure whether the Galaxy screen has a single shared ground for both halves of the screen?

The left and right side of the front screens are effectively two completely independent items. The only single common point is the FCIM but even then it controls each half of the screen separately.

The relays (not serviceable) for each side of the screen are switched by the FCIM providing the negative to the relay control coil. See schematic below.

I've confused this thread with another.  Was sure the OP said it worked previously...but just read the first post again.  I now suspect the screen has been replaced with a non-heated screen before they bought it.

Worth OP checking if they can see the elements.

I had assumed the warranty was extended, not that they'd just bought it.

Thanks guys, I have spoken to the garage I got it from which is about 40 miles away and they are happy to pay for someone local to look into it 👍

The 3 month warranty when you buy a car is up in about 2 weeks

Just FYI your consumer rights give you 6 months protection. (6 years if you can prove the fault was there at the point of sale).

The burden of proof is on the seller to prove that a fault wasn't present at the point of sale or they have to fix it for the first 6 months.

Thank you everyone, there is a local vehicle electrics specialist down the road from me so hopefully they will look at it, the guy said normally it’s the screen itself although also said normally just one side fails

Can you see the tiny elements in the screen? I wonder if Tom is right and it's been replaced with the wrong one at some point.

Yes there is the elements there, I’m sure it worked when we got the car because i remember the screen was getting foggy and it cleared it very quickly

It would have to be a very incompetent window company to replace a clearscreen with standard glass...

Which is why I thought it could be a possibility 😛

When my son bought his 2008 Fiesta ST Mk6, it was fitted with a standard screen instead of the heated one. It only cost around £80 to get the screen replaced with the correct heated one.

I’m hoping it is only something simple like a relay, but I will mention the state of charge even though it does seem like that battery is ok

Hello guys it’s booked in next week at the auto electrics place 👍 hopefully it won’t be a long winded process, on a different subject is forscan worth getting? I would like to change the charging thing to 90 percent and also change the map to the 180bhp version is that possible, it’s only 120bhp at the moment, also can I get new things on the menu on the dash Like battery voltage?

FORScan for windows, free for diagnostic use only or £12 for a 2 year licence that allows programming. You can't use FORScan to "re-map" your engine to 180bhp, you need a company with special software to do that. Also you can't add features like a Volt meter which is not an option on any model. You can use it to turn on Auto High Beam, Auto Drive Away Locking etc.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

Thank you is there things I can’t do on the I phone version but can on the laptop?

The phone versions do not do any kind of programming. They can read all the DTC's and clear fault codes. They can also reset some service indicators like oil life. The phone versions are good for constant live monitoring and useful if you have a fault code that only happens when driving but it keeps clearing when you switch off.

The Windows version can do programming and make changes to features and options.

Hello guys little update on this, the car went in today and apparently it is working, they even tested it with thermal imaging to confirm, although I’m confused because it doesn’t clear Ice from the window like my mates old transit does with a heated front screen, perhaps I’m asking too much of it?

That's weird, when I had a heated screen (many years ago) it would clear an iced up screen in 30 seconds to 2 minutes, barely any time at all. Though to be fair, with my current car, max fan speed, max temperature, vent pointed towards screen can make it driveable in 3 to 4 minutes...
