The surgeon was very annoyed and made a point of apologising to the patients affected. My wife has now been offered an appointment for a week on Saturday. More finger crossing!

Well, today was a week on Saturday.

Left my wife at the eye care unit at 7.30am and returned home to await developments.

Less than 2 hours later, my wife's mobile rang. My heart sank, expecting another cancellation, but she'd moved up the pecking order as previous patients were not responding to their pre-op eyedrops and she'd had the procedure already. Yippee!

So back to the hospital, picked her up and back home by 10-ish. All seems good so far, it takes a couple of days to settle based on the earlier experience with her other eye.

What a relief! 😀

(PS after earlier comments about the usual traffic nightmare at York Hospital, it seems the best time for an op is early Saturday morning, no problems at that time!)

Some may know I was due to be admitted to hospital today for an operation. On arrival, I was then sent home because operation was cancelled! No beds, and no operating theater capacity. I was pretty up

Another successful NHS post... My partner had lost hearing in both nears now for over 25 years due to a degenerative bone disease (Otosclerosis). Meaning she had to wear 2 x powerful hearing aids

That's weird! Heard this twice on the radio over the last couple of days!

Copied and pasted from my Facebook feed!

This is on top of my MS diagnosis in 2011. So now I've got a neurologist, a urologist and a haematologist to answer to! 😀

Earlier this year, in May after an MRI in January and a biopsy in March I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer,  albeit at a fairly low scoring level and hopefully old age will get me before the cancer will. No treatment needed just now and I'm going to be kept an eye on with regular blood tests for the time being.

A couple of weeks ago I was down in Aberdeen to speak to a Haematologist who informed me that I also have something called Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia,  CLL, again at a fairly low level and no treatment just now and regular blood tests as well. This was picked up on the MRI in January.

This all originally stemmed from me getting a PSA test around this time last year after Erik Smiths mini campaign to get men my age to go for a PSA test. Yes, the waiting for results can be a pain but now I know I'm being kept an eye on I can carry on with my life.

So, along with Erik, I'll be encouraging men my age to get a PSA done.

Now to get a holiday booked! 😎

Wee update for you all.

I had a bone scan (day trip to Aberdeen) on the 15th October, letter from urologist a couple of weeks later saying she was happy with the results and would keep asking for 3 monthly PSAs.

Phonecall from haematologist last week saying much the same thing although he's only wanting bloods done every 6 months. So all good on that front 👍

However, don't think I mentioned it before, when I let my 18 months younger than me brother know about my prostate cancer, he decided to go from a PSA as well.

His readings were way above mine so he's also been for biopsy and bone scan. He had a phone call today saying he has a 'fairly aggressive ' prostate cancer and has been offered surgery or radiotherapy.

He's pondering his options over the weekend but neither seems much fun, but probably better than doing neither!

Between us we've got 5 sons so hopefully they'll be kept an eye on in the future, with a more accurate test than it is just now.

That's mixed news, and just before Christmas.

I've been down that road myself and had surgery for bowel cancer and followed up with chemotherapy. Not fun but I'm still here 6 years later 👍

I also have a 'shadow' whatever that means on my prostrate, which was discovered at the same time as the bowel cancer. Many scans and tests later and 3 monthly PSA checks (still on going) and nothing has changed in over 5 years and so they have said just to leave things as they are and to continue monitoring.

I wish you, your brother and the rest of your family good luck for the future and never give up hope.

Final update on my wife's cataract treatment:

Took her for her follow-up appointment this afternoon, after her second eye was done earlier this month.

Everything was fine, and when they had her reading the usual eye chart, they found she could read (with either eye) all the lines except the last row of tiny print, which seems pretty amazing.

She's still to see our regular optician in a few more weeks just to see if any spectacles would be helpful, but it's not looking as if they will be necessary.

Result!👍👍

Well, today is day 4 of lying in bed not feeling like doing anything.

Started coughing on Christmas Eve and haven't really stopped since then, along with flu like symptoms. Not eating much and, more worrying for Mrs Turvey, no alcohol since then either 😮 on the plus side it's bound to be getting the weight off a wee bit 😀

Bit of a pain because I was meant to be working yesterday at time and a half and for the next 3 days at double time but health comes first. When I messaged a boss telling him I wouldn't be in he told me two of our colleagues had been in hospital on oxygen so I really don't want to be the third one!
