1.0L Ecoboost Coolant

As my local Ford dealer have no stock, I was going to use this one.

Triple QX Orange Ready Mixed Antifreeze/Coolant - 5ltr | Euro Car Parts

I always prefer to use Ford genuine parts, but on this occasion need to buy another brand.

Does anyone have any experience of this brand and type please?

  • An hour is nowhere near long enough for such a small leak.  Needs to be done overnight at minimum. Chances are it's only leaking when hot as well, which will make it even more difficult to locate

Back in January of this year you said you were going to get the wet belt changed "later this year".

So why are changing coolant now ? If the wet belts have been changed then the coolant will have bee replaced, or if you still haven't replaced the wet belts than the coolant will get replaced then.

  • Author

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not replacing the wet belt until my Service is due beginning of December.

I need more Coolant as it's at the min level.

Mixing different brands of coolant is never something I would recommend. You can order the correct Ford coolant online from the Ford shop, or from Arnold Clarke online.

Hi Unofix.

I've only just seen your latest reply.

I eventually got an answer from my local Ford dealer, and they say they have loads of the orange one left.

So am I okay to put a litre of the orange one in, as it's got orange in at the moment?

It seems straight forward to me, but I'm a measure twice cut once type of fella.  😂

Yes 👍

I called at my local Ford dealer last night, and bought 2 x 1L bottles.

I asked the girl behind the counter what colour it was, and she didn’t know.

It was in a grey bottle, and didn’t say on the label what colour it was.

She then proceeded to open one, and it was bright green!

“It has to be orange” I told her. She said that it was the only one they have.

I asked to speak with a mechanic, who confirmed it would be fine to mix colours, as it’s the same coolant. I asked him would he put his job on the line for it, and he said yes.

When I got home, before using it, I also phoned another mechanic I know, and he also said it will be fine.

So I used a full litre to top-up.

I guess only time will tell!

I've just realised I added it without diluting it.

I can't actually check the bottle until later, to see if it's concentrated or ready-mixed.

If it's concentrated, will it do any harm?

I added around 1.25L.

  • Author

Can you use deionised water instead of distilled?

It’s only for topping up.

I added green and orange in mine and went a horrid brown colour, ended up flushing and refilling from scratch, purely aesthetic on my part of course.

I've got it booked in on Monday, but the level is no longer dropping.  🤔

If they are a decent garage they will pressure test the system, if there's any bit of crap blocking a hole it may blow it through.

They should put a cap on the coolant bottle and either use a vacuum or a pressure test on it.

Either way should tell you something.

  • Author

I was thinking of cancelling the booking.

Should I still take it in?

Well that depends on cost and if you want peace of mind, if its not going to cost alot then it may be worth seeing if it does have a leak somewhere, but i guess if its stopped leaking for now then dont bother having it tested if its been more than a couple of weeks.

I only noticed a problem last weekend, when the heater stopped working.

I added 1.25L on Monday, and another 3/4L on Tuesday.

I didn't water the Coolant down unfortunately, but it doesn't seemed to have caused any issues.

I checked the level last night, and it remained the same. It was the same this morning also.

I think I'll let him test it anyway, it shouldn't (hopefully) cost too much.

That's quite alot of coolant to be replacing though even if a one off, I assume you've checked the top of the oil cap for emulsified water/oil?

Nope, but I will do now you've mentioned it.  👍

I once had a car the head gasket went on and i lost loads of water as it went into the engine jacket, ran it for 4 days like that haha.

Hi 🙂

I think I’ve got a leak in my coolant system because I checked and it was way down past min today.

I want to top it up and monitor the level to make sure this is what’s happening. I have a 2020 Focus 1.0 Manual and want to make sure I’m putting the right one in.
The spec number on the one on Arnold Clark (on the bottle in the image) doesn’t match what I’m looking for. I think I need WSS-M97B44-D. Is the link above for the correct one and does anyone have any experience with what to do to top it up, and potentially where the leak could be and how much this might cost me to fix. If it’s not the correct link for WSS-M97B44-D - where can I buy it from and is it as simple as topping it up with that.  Theres no obvious leaks underneath and no warning lights. Sorry if this has already been asked but I’m not even close to a mechanic so wanted it put simply. Mine is currently orange if that helps. Thanks 🙂

And this is the orange one? It still says the wrong number on the image of the bottle. It says WSS-M97B57 A1

I would expect it to be the same generic photo that they use for all the different Ford specifications of coolant they sell.

Send then a simple e-mail and just ask them to confirm it is WSS-M97B44-D

Just a quick update.

I've had it in to a local mechanic twice in the last 4-5 weeks. He's had it on pressure test both days, for over an hour. Had it on the ramp, visually inspecting for signs of a leak, and checked the heater matrix, and can't find a one.

It's losing around 300-400ml every couple of weeks.

It's certainly puzzling....
