  • If the battery is original it'll probably be flat by xmas even if you disconnect it.  Would be better off leaving it connected and using a battery charger on it every couple of weeks. Worth notin

  • Not sure if this helps but Ford have a sale on and Im in the same position as you, do I get the final major service at ford for the stamp or do it myself, my thinking was I have modified my car so muc

  • An hour is nowhere near long enough for such a small leak.  Needs to be done overnight at minimum. Chances are it's only leaking when hot as well, which will make it even more difficult to locate

I assume that as the receipt from Ford has a disclaimer at the bottom, saying there may be "possible engine damage", that those words are their "get out of jail" card!

Yes !! 👍

Since you are now buying a new car, then put this experience behind you and let it serve as one of life's learning experiences.  When someone gives you news that you don't want to hear, like 'your engine is scrap', listen to what is being said and don't just dismiss it. You could have saved £700 by not changing the thermostat.

Your new car will come with a warranty, make sure to pay attention to the terms and conditions. Get the car serviced at the times/mileage specified, and in any case it's probably a good idea to change the oil at least once a year.

I got the last car serviced every 12 months regardless of mileage.

The new one will be no different.

I've just got to decide if it's worth paying the extra every year to get Ford to service it, and not an independent.

Although for the first 3 years I assume it may void the warranty if I don't get it done by Ford?

I've ordered the car, been approved for finance, but haven't paid anything yet, so haven't gone into the finer details.

I assume this will happen when I pick it up.

I'd not been a member on here for long.

When someone, basically strangers, who I don't know and have never met or spoke to tell me my engine is knackered, it doesn't really sink it.

That's my loss. Like you said, it will be put down to experience.

Make sure you pay the deposit, or at least some part of the deal using a credit card. Ideally pay £300 on a Visa or Mastercard which will give you extra purchasing rights if something goes wrong.

I'll be paying around a third of the total on credit card, so protection is covered.  👍

I have the money saved up, so will pay the card off as soon as my statement arrives.

Looking at their reputation and experience on the site is pretty basic stuff. I don't always agree with Unofix nor he with me but 25,000 postings suggest he might not be a complete idiot. I rank as a Mentor, somebody whose advice has been found to be helpful. If you ask for advice and disregard it without doing the basics,, it isn't just your own time that you are wasting.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 😉

Well, my car has been driving fine since I had the second leak repaired.

This morning I dropped my eldest son off at work.

When I started it up, he said to me “the car sounds different”. It honestly sounded exactly the same to me, but he said “it definitely sounds different, it’s got more of a roar!”

So maybe it’s finally on its way out?  Maybe with me driving it all the time I haven't noticed it slowly getting worse?

I just hope I can get home tonight, without it going on me!  🙄

So, I ended up selling it last weekend.

Shame, it was a great reliable motor over the years I had it.

Let's hope the new one is as reliable.

Let's hope the old one doesn't turn up here again in two weeks' time.
