Ridiculous Insurance Quotes..

Featured Replies

I finally got mine sorted:

Age 25 with 5 years NCB £480 with AXA: including NCB protection, courtesy car and legal cover. My renewal quote was £900 and I've had others up to £1600 so £480 isn't too shabby.

That is extremely good. My son is 33 with the same details and about to renew with AXA (via Swiftcover) for £639. Should be interesting to get a quote direct from AXA.

Just got an on-line quote from AXA for my son of £911 ! (£1,002 by instalments) Admittedly, he made two claims in 2010, neither of which were his fault and full recovery was made from the other parties. He supposedly has protected NCD. His current renewal is £639 (by instalments) from Swiftcover underwritten by AXA ! I further proof were needed that they make it up as they go along !

I went through Meerkat for my quote and added my parents as named drivers which reduced it by £30 or so. I only drive at off-peak times, less than 4000 miles per year and the car is kept at home all day. The voluntary excess is £300.

I phoned my current insurer to let them know I would not be renewing and they said "£480  that's...impossible!"

Also, my son has me on the policy which should have helped bring it down I understand (I've been driving around 48 years excluding two wheels).

Hi All

Just thought I'd let you all know what I finally went with, it's slightly long winded so bare with me. :)

2 weeks before my renewal I phoned up LV and asked them about my renewal price, I was paying something in the region of £2500 fully comp and at the time 0yrs NCD, they then said to me that my renewal would be £2900, I was shocked to be honest. So I told them thanks but no thanks and began shopping around. At the end of my policy I was going to get 2yrs NCD as they messed up my old insurance on my Punto.

So I used various companies and found Aviva to be the best with a quote of £1900, this got me fully comp, courtesy car, covered for up to 15'000 miles per year and with legal expenses. I was set for that, on the day I was going to purchase the insurance from Aviva a letter arrived from LV containing my renewal quote for £1800. Just annoyed me that one person says one thing and another says something different, so I reckon they do make some of the stuff up. Anyway so I took that and now have 2 years NCB, courtesy car and legal cover. Not too bad but still damn expensive.

Just so you all know I'm 19, live in N9, one of the highest risk postcodes in the country, and am employed in which I was led to believe is a fairly high risk job. Although it isn't and I don't see how it is. Airline Cabin Crew, my car is kept in what must be one of the securest car parks around. 6ft high barbed wire fences 24/7 patrols by airport security and armed police, to get in and out you need to keycard and passcode. There are cameras that photograph the driver and number plate recognition cameras. But the LV rep told me it is high risk... apparently.

Also my misses who has had 3 claims in 2 years, drives a 1.6l car, lives in the same postcode and is 2 months younger than me still pays less..... Fair ;)

Anyway rant/update over :)

Thanks

Kris

Even more proof they stick their finger in the air, think of a figure and treble it! LV knocked £1100 off just because you questioned it - amazing ! Cabin crew high risk job (to your car ?) that is mad ! Your missus is the 'safer' gender you see !? Let's not go into that again !

Sorry duplicated post, finger trouble !

Damn insurance companies.

Im with Admiral on a multi car policy and it runs out in Sept and they want an extra £190 compared to last year.

£580 fully comp with 4 years NCB. Been driving for 20 years but lost my NCB because i went travelling for 3 years and wasnt driving.

Here in OZ im paying $450 fully covered.

If I'm right that's a 48% increase (£190 on top of £390) ? In what other industry could they get away with that sort of thing ? They all jump on the "heavy costs" bandwagon once one company does it unfortunately.

Well Im amazed by some of the quotes!!!!

I passed my test last week, and I am a named driver on my moms car, which is a Fiesta 1.4 TDCI Titanium, I have also added my dad to the policy as a named driver. Im using my moms 7 years no claims discount, and I pay £1443.78. Thats with LV with protected no claims, a 500 excess for my parents and 800 excess for myself, and with 10,000 annual milage. You should phone up the insurance companies, that how I found my quote. I found Aviva to be the next cheapest with £1700.

Cabin crew high risk job (to your car ?) that is mad !

Some occupations tend to have more accidents/claims than others. Might not be anything to do with the job itself but the insurance companies will be looking at the statistics.

I would also guess that this is based on the car possibly being left in airport car parks for days on end and driving to and from work at random times while potentially tired from a flight.

Im with Aviva.

21yrs old - 1650 fully comp - 0 ncb - 6 points - few mods declared - misses on it too lol

I'm with Elephant..

£600 - 21 years old, 2 years no claims, just got my dad on there as named driver (never drives it but bought the cost down considerably)

I'm with Highways (part of LV)

£635 - 22yrs old, all mods declared, 25,000 miles & 4yrs NCB.

Never thought of putting my mum on it.....

I'm 23 2 years no claims and a claim against me I pay 800 but maxing out my excess to 700 brought it down loads that's with swift cover

Age 25, 6 years no claims, £300 excess = £480 with AXA. I've been pleasantly surprised with their good service so far, I went over my mileage allowance and was expecting a charge but they allowed me to increase it for free. They also let me change the alloys on my car for no charge. My insurance is up for renewal in 3 months so hopefully it'll be even lower then.

I had a Matiz insured for £580 for the year, increased to £1,980. Nice increase huh? That's with 1 years NCB at 21. Matiz was the first car and only been driving 18 months. Fiesta - free ;] sort of :P included on a £50 a week lease. Mwuhahaha.

Full no claims, £100 excess and no endorsements, advanced driver qualification - £245 with Cooperative Insurance.

Then again i am a copper and 41.

Just had my 2012 renewal notice. I am currently with Royal Sun Alliance via Ford Insure which I have been since I bought the car new (2009) I am 68 and made one claim last year (renewal says I've now got 2yrs NCD). Apparently I have protected NCD which I didn't realise. This obviously means nothing as they simply put the premium up anyway. I have two named drivers, my 33 yr old son and my wife.

First thing that annoyed me was the opening words of the letter "Thankyou for renewing with Ford Insure". A bit presumptive that.

The renewal premium is £457 which is a 46% increase on last years premium of £333.

I shopped around and have a like-for-like quote of £268 from LV=Insurance which is 10% less than I paid last year !

I think I know what my decision will be !

I realise that these figures are paltry compared with what some drivers are being asked to pay but the percentage differences still are still meaningful.

Yet more examples of "Let's stick a finger in the air and see if the sucker will pay it" syndrome.

Another thing to watch out for if you pay by instalments is the widely varying APR charged by some companies.Ford Insure charge 19.8% APR, LV charge 16.9% APR. A quote I got from Swiftcover said 32.5% APR. All these companies tell you the total to pay by credit.

Happily paying around £700 for my Zetec S. First year was £1000.

Im 20 ive been driving a year and 9 months now.

Ive got no NCB because i was a named driver for a while and my insurance is like 1100 on my zetec s a month ago so i added my girlfriend as a named driver and it was cheaper by 100 quid!! try adding a woman or someone older with NCB.

I used to have a 1.25 zetec 2010 and my renewal was more than it was to get a new zetec s so i bought a zetec s!!!

huzaaah!!!

When i was 18 i looked at getting an ST fiesta for my first car and the cheapest quote was £5000 3rd party fire and theft, i knew it would be expensive but 5 grand ha ha ha

Mine has just dropped the £1k mark this year and ie been driving for 4 years!

Once got a quote online of £10k for a car worth 6k at the time! That gave me endless laughs!
