catch
Taken from the advertising banner FOC SUPPORTER MEMBERSHIP, for a minimal fee the FOC Supporter member will enjoy unlimited access to the forums and a magical feeling of warmth for contributing towards, and being a part of an exclusive club. FOC Supporter Membership costs just £10.00 per year! * Unlimited access to post within all of our public forums * Lesser Adverts * Access to our supporter moderation free forum area (activated upon subscription) Great for club banter! * Larger PM storage box from 100 to 10,000 PM messages * Attachments in PM's * Invite other users in to PM conversations * Ability to email more members through the forums * 10 Gallery Albums * Edit own topic titles and descriptions * Personalise your Profile background * Ability to upload files/images into forum posts (100 meg) * Small flood control limits when searching * FOC Supporters badge in your posts to show your a proud supporter of FOC * Use of our Buy & Sell section and (private sellers only...no traders please) * Club Sticker for your Ford! * A warm and comforting glow from knowing that you are not only a member of an exclusive club - but that you are also actively contributing to the success of the club. Some observations on my part: Now when I joined this Forum back in October 2009, it was hardly buzzing in the Focus section, but it seems to have picked up steam of late, and I notice traffic is attracting advertisers and the revenue it brings. And I'm pleased for the owners that their work is being appreciated. Of course site owners don't make forums popular, that's down to the supportive forum members that field the enquiries that are posted on the boards. And thereby hopefully encourage those that first come seeking advice, then decide they like the banter and they themselves become active posters. Because websites are all about TRAFFIC, if you don't have traffic you don't have anything. All I can say is I left the FFOC because I consider I contribute via my postings. What I'm saying is, if in the future I will be expected to pay to post or view the forums................it will be :D Whilst it has not been intimated on the site owners part, that it could in the future become a fee paying forum. I would still be interested to hear other members view points if it were to happen. And I suspect the site administrators would also be interested in knowing current members opinions on the subject. catch
Steve
hi mate It will NEVER be a pay to post forum. I have been running various boards for 10 years and i have NEVER restricted anyone or EVER will from viewing or posting. But if someone would like to have more resources on their account and help out the club a little then this is the option. So no need to worry and keep posting as normal :)
johnH
on a another forum (for peugeot), we have noticed a massive increase on traffic due to another affiliate site starting you have to pay for membership...all the "heavyweights" forumers got up and came to ours and the user count is still on the up... in my opinion if this forum starts a pay to have membership...ill be offskee and ill find another its what i call admin suicide. Steve
thats if you have a pay per view/post. Thats not happening here. If you don't fancy supporting then don't. Nothing will change as far as viewing and interacting with the forum. But later we intend to give away stuff, have BBQ meets and stuff like that, that costs and therefor to run a successful club you need a pot.

It is the wording in the subscription membership blurb, that led me to open this thread. When listing the benefits of opting for paid membership. In my opinion [for what its worth] it is misleading to include at the very top of that list, an option that is not dependent on paid membership.
Steve
good point there mate.. i will relook at the wording in the morning.. thanks for your input :)
adzmcp
When I owned my impreza there forum would let you pay for membership if you wanted. You could still use the site if you did not pay the only thing you could not do is sell anything on the site. Because they had paid memberships if you opted in they did lots of meets with food etc and got there own stands. It worked really well. IF you was a none paying member you could still goto the events but just chip in when there for food etc so it was easier and cheaper just to pay your £20 for the year. Plus you got a welcome pack with 3 car stickers with club website address. 2 small ones for rear quarter and 1 large and other bits too

jeebowhite
As long as its still a free environment is all good. I wouldnt mind paying a tenner a year (if I had the funds) as owning a forum, running the servers etc doesnt come free...

r0b3r7
Well i signed up as it was advertised as 50% off, so my membership only cost a fiver :). I signed up as im part of an administrator active forum community, and know the costs involded (thats not counting personal hours spent doing maintenance and site improvements) I doubt very much that the site would go to a pay to post forum
bottletree
I think all Focus owners should be treated like kings and the rest of you lowly folk should be made to pay £100 a week. Focus C-max owners should also pay fees, but only half the cost as they have the word Focus on their cars. :P

Lenny
I personally have signed up for a year’s membership as I feel it’s a small price to pay for the benefit and peace of mind you get by communicating to other owners who may have experienced similar problems as your own which leaves you going in to ford knowing what you’re talking about, which means their less likely to rob you blind, and even the free information on stereo codes etc. I live in Ireland and will never make it to a meet in the uk but I enjoy the online environment and the sharing of knowledge amongst other ford owners, someone had to dig a lot deeper than £10 to make this site all happen so I feel it’s worth paying a small fee if you can afford it just to say thanks, :)
Lenny
I Paid on Saturday night and still haven’t received my club contributor tag on my posts or any more privileges than I had as a free member, Is it because I’m from Ireland and not the UK?? :(

Lenny
Apologies Lenny - I'll get in touch with Steve and get him on it for you, I'm sure it's just an oversight. no problem, I find it very funny though that if I swear on this site they edit it and give me a finger wagging almost immediately, but when you pay money they take their time in return, if this was eBay your feedback would be a disaster, i actually purchased and received a front lower grill from ford in the uk in the time its taking to get a virtual tag on my virtual account lol he should also state on the listing in the shop somthing like this prior to purchase the account will be upgraded when I get a chance or remember but thanks for the cash Also whats the purpose of a super moderator?? Cant you control the site? Or do anything different to us,
DanGull
I'm not sure why we're all 'super' moderators - we're just moderators. We have control over the site in the sense that we can control the content (it was me who gave you your swearing warning btw). However - we do not have control over the admin of the site - paid memberships and advertising are dealt with exclusively by Steve the forum owner. The super mods are volunteer members. As I said - I'm sure this is an oversight. They happen on eBay and in most other walks of life from time to time.
