ford escort estate soaking wet passenger foot well

hi everyone. i have only just recently bought my ford escort estate. from when i bought the car, i saw some damp on the carpets which i thought was the heater matrix. this has alrady been replaced but the wet carpet problem seems to be getting worse. all of the seals are doing their jobs and there is no rust or holes on the floorpan at all. i have seen the windscreen to have sighns of water on it in the mornings but i think this is just condensation. the only wet spot is in the center of the passenger carpet but not anywhere else. please help guys. thanks

I had an '94 Orion some years back which suffered from a smilar problem. In the end the passenger footwell rusted through. It turned out that water was getting on the battery tray and due to me parking on a slight incline, working it's way back through to the passenger compartment.

I'm no expert, but it might be worth checking under the bonnet to see if there are any damaged seals there, or evidence of water laying the engine.

I have the same problem with my escort, i cant figure out where it is coming from!

The sunroof drains are clear and there is no damp in the engine bay, or signs of rust under the car on the floor pan etc................... help!

sounds daft but cheack the rubber gromit on the door were your speeker wires go ,i ran a power cable thru this and water ran down the door and tru the gromet that was slightly open and went all over my carpet u never know it could be as simple as that regards ste

DEFINATELY CHECK UNDER THE battery TRAY ALL PRONE TO ROT , YOU NEED TO REMOVE battery TO GET A GOOD LOOK THEN TRY POURING KETTLE OF WATER ON TRAY AND CHECKING INSIDE. IM JUST REPLACING MINE AND A REPAIR PANEL

I have the same problem with my escort van. Have had a look behind the battery and it is some what rotten. Think I might try a bit of a repair.

hi everyone ive had this problem with two of my escorts and with one ive got now its coming in the wing mirror seal and down the door between the door card then on to the floor in the middle i was thinking it was the battery tray as normal on escorts but this is where it was coming from hope this helps
