A prime suspect is the electronic throttle actuator. If just a bit sticky, it could do this. It is monitored by the ECU for errors, and major problems would create a DTC (code) - Use Forscan or another really good diagnostic system to check far any hidden relevant DTCs.

Cleaning the actuator sometimes helps, at least for a while.

Behind the plastic intake manifold.

Thank you 😊

Seized bolts on rear suspension is common! Including bolts for rear tracking! As for fixes. I have had to cut them off and replace. Not the tracking bolts. Iv been told not to try anything with them at all. But I guess seized bolts is common with most cars.

Hello,

Newbie here with another instrument cluster issue... While dismantling the cluster for resoldering, the lcd panels cracked (not sure how, only found out during reinstall), and for some reason the speedometer stops working at around 30 km/h. Unfortunately, this is the cluster with two screens that seems quite rare (2008 1.6 Ghia estate), and so far i've been unable to find a replacement panel at a decent price.

Now i'm looking at replacing it with an MK2.5 cluster, I know it involves transferring settings and programming PATS keys. However, i'm wondering whether I need to source one from the same model, or would any model do, e.g. from a 2010 1.8 16v hatchback?

You'll have to find a used cluster on the likes of ebay to scavenge replacements from.

In the case of the smaller one there are Chinese replacements available for the green colour variant, though I've not actually tried one yet.

ABS sensor issue.

Can't really help too much with that. This is not something intended by the manufacturer and is thus prone to numerous potential compatibility issues. I don't actually even have a full pinout for the older MK2 connectors to compare with the Mk2.5 pinout, there are just a few power/ground pins I use for cluster repair work that do happen to match up.

@rd457, thanks for your response! Unfortunately it's the red one with two screens. I've seen examples of people getting different MK2.5 clusters to work on an MK2 Focus, but not sure i'm willing to take that risk based on your comments. Do you know if the older ones are interchangeable?

Ahojte všetci, potreboval som poradiť, pretože som zúfalý.

Mám Ford focus MK2 20 LPG 107 kW. Nájazd 250 000 km a doteraz NEBOL žiadny problém

A vsetko ok. No a teraz mi to berie 0,8L oleja na 500 km. ....

Stalo niekomu nieco podobne?

Ďakujem

Hello everyone, I need some advice because I'm desperate. I have a Ford focus MK2 20 LPG 107 kW. Mileage 250,000 km and so far there has been NO problem I recently took my car to a service station and they also did a regular oil service. Friday afternoon I drove home today and over the weekend I did 1,100 km (since I drive like a taxi). On Sunday afternoon I checked the oil. After the first pull out, the dipstick of course showed the optimal level, but when I wiped it and put it back in, it was completely dry. I poured 3.5 liters of oil in there. The engine is dry from below, the car doesn't smoke.... Before, I didn't have any problems with the oil (I poured about 0.6-0.8L per 10,000 km). And everything is ok. Now it takes 0.8L of oil per 500 km. .... ...what's going on with them. The car still got what it needed and the services were done consistently except for the usual consumables, like brakes and so on... The engine ran like clockwork. I just got an engine error every now and then but that was some problem with the catalytic converter. Has anything similar happened to anyone? Thanks

A good DPF is designed to remove smoke, so lack of smoke from the exhaust does not mean the engine is not burning oil. For a rapid increase increase in oil consumption like that, my 1st suspect would be the turbo. The oil could be getting from the shaft into the intake pipes, or into the exhaust (before the DPF), or both.

Oops, I was reading the engine type from UnoFix's translation. I guess an LPG 2.0 does not have a turbo! My next suspect would be a valve stem seal, for a sudden failure.

Hi all,

I've got a 2009 1.6 and had the dash cluster issue which is causing unreliable to start:

Code - U1900, looks like... Cranks but doesnt start, or sometimes doesn't even crank, or will start perfectly on a colder / 1st start of the day then struggle to start if I've driven on a short journey, i.e. popped to thshops.

Tried soldering it myself which made it better but the problem came back so I sent it to company called "ecutesting".

They've returned it fixed but I still have the same issue. Could it be anything else?
Potentially send the ECU off to get tested?

Any helps appreciated.

Thanks Stephen - i've sent a message on Ebay.

Any idea on possible faults if it's not the cluster?

Potentially, i might need to replace the Cluster and re-program or do i need to start looking at the ECU...

It is more likely to be a wiring problem. There are a number of connectors in the CAN bus wiring from Cluster to ECU that are prone to corrosion and bad contacts. The schematic for the Mk2a Focus is available on this site, along with a lot of information about the CAN bus wiring in various threads.

The simple resistance test on the CAN bus is a good starting point, there should be a stable value of about 60 ohms between pins 6 & 14 on the diagnostic connector (DLC), with the ignition off.

Schematic: https://www.fordownersclub.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=42087

I can find some of the CAN bus wiring threads with connector locations if wanted.

I've advised him via ebay to start with trying a replacement ignition switch, which he's since done and it's cleared up some/all issues. He's going to see how it goes over the next couple of weeks or so.
