TheRookie
The driver's side front tyre on my Focus CC is approaching legal limit so I am looking to change both fron tyres. The size is a bog standard one: 205/50 R17 93W XL (this is one heavy car),. Yesterday I compiled a list of all tyres up to 200 quid (for two tyres, including delivery and/or fitting). Here is what in it in alphabetic order: Avon ZV5 Avon ZZ3 Barum Bravuris 2 Barum Bravuris 3HM Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Dunlop SP 01 Falken Azenis FK-453 Falken HS-449 Falken Ziex 912 Falken Ziex 914 Firestone Firehawk SZ90 Fulda SportControl Goodyear Eagle NCT5 Goodyear EfficientGrip Hankook Ventus Prime 2 K115 Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 Hankook K107 Hankook Ventus S-1 Evo2 K-117 Kleber Dynaxer HP3 Kumho KH31 Kumho KU31 Kumho KH11 Nexen N6000 Nexen Nblue Nexen Nfera SU4 Nokian Zline Nokian Line Pirelli Cinturato P7 Toyo Proxes CF-1 Uniroyal Rainsport 2 Uniroyal Rainsport 3 Vredestein Ultrac Cento Yokohama C.Drive 2 What do you recon is the best tyre for the Focus? The prices vary from 104 for Nexen NBlue and 200 for Dunlop SP01.
orangeboy
I can recommend the Avon ZZ3 - I have 4 fitted to my Focus. I found the cheapest place for an all in fitted price was ATS.
TheRookie
Interestingly enough the Avon ZZ3 in this size only listed on LoveTyres and nowhere else. Even Avon website doesn't have this tyre in 205/50/
ed12
I am running Dunlop SportMAXX on the front, not sure if they are silly money for 17", but they grip, grip, grip and grip. Hold on way longer than my previous FK452's, quiet, give a lot of confidence in wet weather. Not sure how long they last, only been on 4k. TheRookie
The Dunlop Maxx RT (is this the ones you've got?) will cost me 102 quid delivered each. :( Question - the label says it only got 65dB noise level. Are they really that quiet? This is the lowest noise level I ever seen on any tyre!
ed12
Yeah, RT. I picked them up for £65 each :D :D :D benefit of 16" lol They are very quiet, more noise from the wind lol. Do have the 452's on the rear so a little noise comes from the back. My little focus goes like shes on rails, I can only presume they won't last very long. TheRookie
I haven't seen a single Focus CC on 16". I saw a couple of these on 18" but most (all five of these in this country lol) got 17". Ah well... will have to wait until next payday :(
ed12
I would also look into Goodyear and Avon rubber. Personally would avoid Falkens now, just the way the 452's were great when they were fresh, but that didn't seem to last long. Front's were at tread markers on 20k, rears have plenty of life left in them though. I did like the tread pattern though! :)
TheRookie
What do you guys think about latest Nexen NBlue? Autoexpress seem to rate it quite highly: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/60115/nexen-nblue-hd http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/64392/nexen-nblue-hd The price is very low - 104 quid for two tyres inc delivery. TheRookie
I think I'll go for Hankook Optimo 4S H730 All-season. Did anyone had any experience with Tyreleader.co.uk? They seem to be German company but offer free shipping to the UK and their prices are way lower...
ed12
Never used them, mine have always been cheapest at http://www.ctyres.co.uk/
TheRookie
CTyres are too expensive for the tyres I need. I've used several companies in the past: Camskills, eTyres, Event Tyres, etc. But all of those were UK based rather than German. I have nothing against Germans (after all breaks for my Focus were designed in Koblenz!) but not sure of the company is legit.
ed12
They seem to be legit... http://goo.gl/6Hkm2E http://goo.gl/NeLgX8 Edit - Some of them are quite 'old'... PirelliPZero Nero225/40 ZR19 93WDOT 2008, XL
TheRookie
Got Hankook Optimo 4S H730 fitted by Event Tyres today. It was cheaper to go with them (using Honest John's voucher) than get it from Germany.
