    Ok my clue of, you might not get out what you put in is a 'technical' sort of reference which can be calculated or measured.. It is not for example oil where you put in 5litres and burn 500ml and drain out 4.5 litres if you get what I'm saying.

    How 'long' is this going to take (another clue)

    Right, it drove me nuts so I cheated, and after I called Stef a few swear words via text, I resigned this round and got the answer out of him!

    OK so the clues thus far from Stef:

    > it's not unique to a car or even an engine. Most things [in life] have some form of this one way or another

    > you might not get out what you put in is a 'technical' sort of reference which can be calculated or measured. [This is not referring to fluid capacity]

    > You have all seen and touched this particular thing in question. [Not just on a car]

    > It has a cross section

    > Every car has one but petrol and diesel are different.

    > It's a crucial component that If removed your car wwould be useless

    But some of his clues are more cryptic! hes done a good job on this one!

    I will add a clue of my own, there is more than just one on every car, and it comes in all sizes and has multiple colours
