Here's an easy one, to contradict my last comment.

I am made of metal. I go round at a varying rate. I also go in reverse.

I can be fitted in two different ways but each with exactly the same effect.

Nope, it's not a system in general like brakes or gearbox it's a small part that is fitted when something is changed on the car..
