Yup! It's pathetic, it was scratched at a car wash. What a waste. They're really hard up and with the bl**dy Vauxhall playing up they're carless.

I asked her about buying it back, she said the insurance won't let them? My dad said probably because the insurance company could make some money buy stripping it for parts...such a shame.

I'm not entirely sure about the situation, but they sent it off to be valued and it came back at about £1000 to repair (sounds a bit OTT) and the insurance wrote it off. Can they do this? Sorry I don't know much about insurance.

I would love to see some photos but I believe they are not acting legally. I would be taking this up with the ombudsman. Sounds to me like they are taking the mick

Yep exactly what I thought! My dad said for them to challenge the insurers decision and if need be, take it up with the financial ombudsman. I've asked my mum to speak to her. It all seems a little fishy to me! The car is perfectly fine otherwise.

I'll see if my aunt has any photos of the damage.

I would hide that car do they can't take it until such a time as all has been resolved. If it'd as simple as the car wash scratched the paintwork, then that's got sweet fa to do with write off, if a car is structurally damaged and needs to be repaired for mot purposes then it's a case to answer, but when the damage is superficial they can back out and cancel the claim.

Unfortunately the car is still up in London where it was being assessed, so no option to do that! I'll have a chat with my mum tomorrow (it's 23:24 here in California) and ask her to get some more details regarding this.

Does seem odd to me though, I thought that say, if the insurers were going to write the car off, but it was just cosmetic damage, you could refuse and they'd return the car? Or is this not possible?

Slow wifi ! People who act like they know it all cops out with the speed gun grr it's going to be one of these nights

Unless the car is cat b or a then it can remain on the road. A scratch unless it's gauged all panels down the side of the car would not write a car off. Though if it's an economic write off you can request a buy back but you should be able to request to cancel the claim

Thanks for the info. I'll let you know the outcome.

Early mornings that are THIS early...

Early mornings that are THIS early...

moan moan moan I been up all night ha 5th night in a row now :(

Lol, didn't go to sleep until after 2, and the night before/morning before was no better, but yes nights are not fun when they throw your system out of whack...

On another "I don't like note", I follow this thread and feel like I've read everyone's posts and I don't believe it has been mentioned, but I think A LOT of people don't like this and that is:

"I don't like wing mirror spiders!!!!!!"

I love wing mirror spiders, more so when they are swinging in the wind as you drive :D

To keep the 'I hate' going....

I hate any lane hoggers!! Just spent the last 1 1/2hr's coming back from Cambridge and on sections of motorway with 4 or 5 lanes you've always got one twonk who's sat trundling along in lane 3 causing a que of cars pulling all the way out to lane 4 to pass them!!! GRRR. Beeped a few of them and politely (honest) indicated that the whole left side of the motorway was clear for them to use. Got one apology and several blank 'durrr' faces :(

I hate the spider on my boot spoiler infant find him bit nice to cover the back window in webs lol

I hate idiots who swing out in front of you at 50 miles an hour with no breathing room and just don't even respond, apologise or care when you hammer the horn for 5 or so seconds...

Cars that are so small you can't see them!!

Nearly had a head-on when I didn't see such a car until it pulled out in front of me when I reached a narrow section of road

Edited to remove possible sexist comments and replies.

Keep the peace People.

Fair comment sir and duly noted...thanking you.

When on the motorway and you come up behind multiple lorries, move over to the middle lane to overtake only for one of the lorries to then pull out in front of you.

Although on the plus side, it probably annoys the BMW drivers who think the 3rd lane is there specifically for them to do 90+ mph in.

I call that the M25 game.

I don't like getting Laptops to fix (friends & family),

I REALLY don't like getting DIRTY Laptops to fix,

Why the hell can't people clean them before giving them to me!?

Food, Dirt, Dust, Hair, Grease, Pet Hair (Cat & Dog) and god knows what else all over it......

I can certainly relate to this, last 2 times I went over to my parents I spent a lot of time removing some very stubborn adware from their laptop, and I think they had also been using it as a coaster / food tray by the look of it.

And I suppose adware deserves a mention my itself, very annoying although I can't remember ever getting anything like that on any of my computers, because I don't click on fake links telling me that Windows is running slowly lol. Luckily the stuff that found its way onto my dad's laptop wasn't very malicious, although one of them created about 50 warning messages telling me to call some phone number, and stopped you from doing anything else until you kill it in task manager.

The motorway/road with the highest concentration of dimwits in the country.

Ohh...I dunno...the M6 has more than its fair share!!

The M55 is generally quite good - as is the M180...most of the time

Officially the largest carpark in Europe.
