Things I Don't Like

so interested to know what sort of things it stopped you doing?

To be honest Tom it is so long ago now many of the problems have been lost to time. I do remember one simple thing that I wanted to do when I first got the iphone was to set up different ring tones, for different callers. However, that was anything but easy, and I couldn't use my own ring tones as I had to buy them from the apple store. Then there were e-mail problems as apple go out of their way to ensure trying to use anything to do with Microsoft is nearly impossible.

My partner has an iPhone which she loves! However, it does mean that simple video chatting between us is almost impossible, Apple won't allow anything other than their FaceTime which you can't download on Android. Even transferring a photo between our phones can't be done via BluTooth even if phones are next to each other. Apple doesn't allow such activity. Apple reminds me of the closed shop mentality of militant unions in the 1970s LOL

Apple....bas**rds ! Just another greedy corporate entity out to fleece you. I had a 27in Imac and iphone in the past until i gave my head a wobble and woke up to the reality of their ethos. Snakes theives and control freaks, thats all they are. I wouldnt be seen dead using an Apple product ever again.

Good job Google isn't out to steal your data and control the world as well...oh wait...

In other news, it looks like 128GB of internal data would be more than enough for me.  The pictures on this card go back to 2020 so say an average of 5GB per year.

They are all at it, however Apple are the worst AFAIC.

Am I just slow to learn this bit of information ?

In the last few years I've had occasion to question the quality of an electrical product and to even comprehend just how it was that it was 'CE' marked and therefore should have complied with various European safety standards.

An example of this would be some outdoor Christmas lights that I bought in December. After only a few days of rain many of the LED's had failed due to water getting in to the connection. I can still hear myself saying "how in Gods name can these be CE approved?"

Well now I know the answer. They aren't and never were CE approved, and the label was in fact telling me something quite different. They were China Export marked, and it just so happens the Chinese have copied the European CE logo. Who would have ever expected the Chinese to do that ?

Of course to avoid any possible confusion, the Chinese have made the spacing between the letters a little smaller so that there could be no mistake 🤣

My Mrs went to the supermarket this morning and came back with the offside DRL out on her SEAT Mii.

I'd replaced the nearside one last year and took the precaution of buying a spare at the same time. It took me ages and a gashed thumb to figure out how to change the first one, but this one took literally 2 minutes because I knew how.👍

But really, as Unofix mentions in the previous post, things are terrible quality these days. That's TWO non-scheduled replacement items in 11 years! Shocking!😀

Any free tips for removing sticker residue from plastic?  Or should I just order some dedicated Sticky Stuff Remover?

If it's 'hard plastic', either lighter fuel, or isopropyl alcohol works for me.(as with all such advice, test on an inconspicuous bit first LOL)

Try any Cleaners that you have in the house first.

I recently had to replace a Track Rod End Ball Joint on my car so I marked the Steering Wheel straight ahead position relative to the Shroud with Masking Tape and a pen mark for reference and left it on for a few days.

It did leave a small residue but I manage to remove it with the car interior cleaner that I normally use.

Mr Sheen makes umpteen things clean !!

I have already tried anti-bac wipes and kitchen cleaner.  I thought they'd sort of worked earlier but now it's dried it feels sticky again.  Don't have any lighter fluid or alcohol here unfortunately.

Tom, what kind of guy are you?? 🤣 You must have an old Zippo lying about in a drawer you sometimes use? LOL OK, lets try acetone cleaner, the stuff that girls often use to remove their nail polish. Failing that try spraying a bit of brake cleaner on a cloth and gently rub onto the residue... (or even white vinegar)

Do you not have a bottle of this about?

One that doesn't care for archaic stereotypes!

To be fair I do have one lighter.  It's a disposable from a dodgy nightclub that the previous tenant must have knocked behind the cupboard.

Haven't got much car stuff left here since a new landlord took over and decided we could no longer store items in communal storage areas.

I have got some window cleaner with vinegar in it though...that's probably worth a try now you mention it!

Nope.  Never used it.  Clay mitt was a much quicker option!

What your trying to say is I don't need to keep the hairspray in the cupboard any longer.

Had a go at this today...

Vinegar house window cleaner - no difference

Alcohol car window cleaner - no difference

And apologies to Ian, I did find some Tar Remover in the cupboard, albeit Simoniz branded - no difference

No idea what this glue is made of but it's well on there!

The thing about these kind of products is that the additives 'marketed' are a very very small proportion of the end stuff. I doubt they'll even be a few % in volume. Shame you haven't got the 'neat' product. I have 6 x 500ml of white vinegar in my garage where a shop was selling them off cheap, 10p/bottle.  You never know when they'll come in handy 😀

Very good for cleaning the glass of wood burners 😉

Looks like rubbing alcohol is readily available in multiple sizes on eBay.  Is this the sort of thing where a little goes along way?  Or will I need more than I expect?  Don't want a large container to try and store somewhere, but also don't want to find I don't have enough.  Trying to find the best compromise between those.

Estimate the area of glue is around 50 square inches.  (A5 paper size).
