Things I Don't Like

It would be because your phone has had 'emergency alerts' turned off, not the OS. I turned mine off last year when they trialed the alert system, the government can't inform me of anything I'd wish to know!

That's what I thought too but I had a look and the Setting to turn it on or off is in my Android 11 phone but not Android 9 phone, which is the one I use daily.

That is odd - Mr Google suggests you can turn them on/off even in Android 9. If you go into settings, in the search settings bar do you get anything when you look for, 'emergency'?

This is a copy of the Official Government Alert advice, so it must be correct🤣.

Compatible mobile phones and other devices

Make sure your device has all the latest software updates.

Emergency alerts work on:

  • iPhones running iOS 14.5 or later
  • Android phones and tablets running Android 11 or later

If you have an earlier version of Android, you may still be able to receive alerts. To check, search your device settings for ‘emergency alerts’.

When I go into my Settings and click onto Wireless Emergency Alerts it takes me to my Messages Settings where the setting should be but it is not there on my Android 9 phone, it is there on my Android 11 phone.

In my Android 11 phone there is an App called "Emergency Alerts", that is not there on the Android 9 phone and not available to download on Google Play either.

The phone is as up to date as it can be.

Mine is Android 10 and has the full optional settings for 'emergency alerts'. Maybe they reckon that folk with older phones must be poor, and not worth saving 🤣

I don't like the way all the centre white lines on our local roads have been allowed to wear away to nothing. Also the tarmac has often been broken up along the edge by wide heavy vehicles leaving ruts and potholes. At night when confronted with oncoming vehicles, especially with the modern high-intensity lights, it's nigh impossible see the grass verge and accurately judge my position on the road. I've even tried using the front fogs but that doesn't help and is technically illegal. It seems very dangerous although I must admit I don't see reports of accidents so maybe it's just me. I don't drive after dark these days unless it's unavoidable.

The Police, Councils and Government say the cause of all accidents is "speed" and not caused by anything else.

They are of course all wise people and completely correct. If nothing moved then there would be no accidents 🤣

I don't like the ebay changes coming in on 4th Feb.

For anyone that doesn't know, they'll be adding a 'buyers premium' to all items.  The minimum for that is 75p.  (Value percentage + 75p)

They will also be withholding sellers money until 2 days after tracking shows that it's been delivered.  Meaning sellers now have to use a Tracked delivery service.  Minimum price for a flat item via RM Tracked is £2.70.  (Generally £3.39 for anything deeper than 2.5cm.

That means that if you sell a cheap flat item for £1, you'll have to pay £3.45 on top.  Meaning it's no longer worth sellers selling cheap items on there.

I'm also slightly confused as to what it means for sellers.  Will they have to calculate the buyers premium before listing to make sure they're not out of pocket?  I have seen hints that it may be added on to their listing price, so only the buyer sees it.  But that also makes it difficult to price things around the same value as other similar items.

Overall it feels like Ebay are shooting themselves in the foot here.  In theory they'll be making more money from the interest earnt on the 2 day withholding, as well as the buyers premium fee...but I feel the number of sales will be dropping dramatically when the new changes come in.  I've been trying to sell as many items as I can this month and will just have to see how it pans out as to whether I decide to sell any more in future.

Nothing changes for business sellers and it’s the buyer who pays the fee for private sellers.

It’s because they are trying to compete with the likes of vinted.

So as a buyer I'll still be able to buy items for £1-£2 from business sellers?

I don't see how that's competing with Vinted though.  It means buyers will avoid private sellers on ebay because the business sellers will be cheaper.  If anything it's forcing private sellers to use sites like Vinted instead of ebay.

Afternoon all.

Thought I'd try and create a thread to share the negativity of daily life and thing we dislike everyday.

I'll go first.

Sitting in a hospital waiting room waiting to be seen after being bitten by a spider and it's full of non tax payers higher up the queue than me.

KFCs new fries

Fuel prices going up again.

What's upset you today.

(Not a time to be needy)

What makes you think It’s full of non tax payers ?

I asked “ what makes you think the hospital was full of non tax payers “ the date of the post is irrelevant to be honest

Do you think you have super powers to get someone back on the forum after nearly 10 years. I'm an optimistic type but even that's pushing it.
