2011 C-max Upgrates

Hi to everyone,

I am new to the forum and to Ford as well. I recently

purchased a second hand 2011 Cmax 1.6 TDCI Trend edition. This edition is lets

say the poorest of them all, so I am thinking about making a few upgrades (armrest,

alu wheels etc).

I have two questions for the forum members.

Does anybody know if I can upgrade from AC to Clima by just

replacing the control panel with a digital one, like those provided in the

Platinum edition? I am afraid that the answer will be most probably negative

but I am hoping that the only difference between the two systems is the panel

itself.

Second, which rim dimension do you consider ideal in terms

of handling, breaking and comfort, for the current motor? The 16inch or the

17inch wheelset,? I am a great fan of the Michelin Energy that are up to 16inch

wheels., so if the 17inch wheels are better, I will have to look for tyres as

good as the Energy.

Last but not least, I don’t believe that one can install an

aftermarket cruise control system, is that correct (had to ask)?

I can answer your last question, as about 10 years ago I had an auto electrical firm fit an after market cruise control to a Honda Jazz.

Since then I'm into my 3rd c-max, all titanium models which have cruise as standard.

The upgrade from basic a/c to climate cannot be achieved by just replacing the control panel

Hi guys and thanks for the replies! I found some videos of aftermarket cruise control installation

but in most cases you 'd have to carve the steering wheel, sooooo I ll pass...

As far as it concerns the clima instead of AC, FORD totally agrees with Mondeo TXS 2.2. I just can't install it!

So next time, I ll buy the titanium version. For the time being I have installed an armrest from Ford and will change the wheels to a nice set of alluminium 16' wheels. As you see I am trying to make a semi-titanium version. Besides that the car is great!

What has also drown my attention is that a friend has the Volvo V40 D2. It has the exact same engine and it consumes about one liter less than mine (average 5.8 to 6.3, compared to Volvo's 4.8 to 5.2). Taking into account that the Volvo is a bit heavier, it must be the aerodynamics that plays crucial role in the consumption. Interesting, so I ll put a spoiler (I am joking)!

As said changing from Air con to climate control isn't really feasible as there are just too many parts that need changing including parts in the dashboard like motors and sensors etc.

However the question of can it be done is one that you will get a no answer to from everyone, but and this is a big but, if you had a donor car with climate and had the time and inclination to swap every part require then yes it is actually possible. but the time spent to do so would outweigh the change and also would not add any real value to the car you already have so it is just a non starter.

Nothing is impossible if you have the time, money expertise and tools and skill it just depends how far you want to go on something, but it always works out cheaper to chage the vehicle with the options you want on it rather than retro fitting them.
