Focus 1.6 LX losing power

Hi,

Just after a bit of help, since yesterday my petrol 1.6 Focus LX seems to be intermittently losing power (still running but under power) if that makes sense, I have a red exclamation in what looks like a cog, maybe 30 seconds later the car will seem to drive normally with the warning still on as mentioned - I did notice a new issue this morning that a couple of times when in 2nd/3rd gear about 10 lights come up on the dash and were the millage displays i have (- - - -) loss of power again and then car seems to come back to life!

If anyone has any ideas that would be great, i have checked all the basics like oil, coolant, checked for leaks, all looks good and the car doesn't sound any different even when power goes slightly low, I'm guessing the power loss is a safety feature but this my first Ford so not entirely sure, its booked in the garage for tomorrow but im dubious of driving it until its checked!

Cheers

Mike

What year is the car?

You may have the common instrument cluster issue. Where car dies, sometimes starts back up after a fit, dash lights up, won't start after is died but does after a short period. Lines instead of mileage.

Revtronic fixes this for £40. But some users have resoldered connection, WD-40 etc.

The loss of power sound like car is going into limp mode.

Apologies for the late reply but got it fixed 05 Focus by the way, appears to be the Cluster failure you mentioned, took my car to Revtronic in Bradford and fixed it for £90, £500 for a new one anywhere else!

Nightmare to diagnose as the car was plugged in at various garages with no faults coming up but the dash going mental, this was the last resort and done the trick just thought I'd update in case anyone else has the same annoying issue.

Cheers

It seems to me that the garages must have using a very basic generic scanner. These faults usually generate loads of error codes, but mostly rather Ford specific, so a Ford specific multi-module system like Forscan is needed.

I had a similar problem on my 2006 Focus.

Thanks for the feedback.

Peter.

looks like the cluster dies at around 10yr old as they are failing all over the place
