Hi folks, can anyone please tell me if it is a Timing Chain or Belt fitted to a 2004 Plate Focus 2 Litre Zetec Engine. Thanks Bernard

I used to have a 2000 Mondeo mk2 2 litre petrol Zetec and that was a belt, pretty sure yours will have the same.

I've now got a 2010 Focus 1.8 litre petrol duratec and this has a chain.

Assume the 1.6 tdci (2008) is a chain too? If so, is there any maintenance / service of the chain and at what mileage is recommended?

The 1.6 TDCI has a timing belt. On the 1.6 TDCI the timing belt needs to be changed every 125.000 Miles or 10 Years.

Ford changed the timing belt replacement interval a few times on the 1.6 TDCI so to be 100% sure about your car you can fill in your VIN number on the Ford Etis website and look at the service schedule information.

my 58 plate 1.6 tdci is recommended to be done around 65k, certainly no later than 125k, I split the diff and went for it around 82k

I've got an 08 plate and it's just on 82k. Guess it wont do any harm to get the belt done!
