replaced throttle body

hi i put my s max into a garage to replace the throttle body and when i recieved it back they told me the throttle body couldnt be programmed it was a self programming so it now has a engine malfunction which they have told me will go in around a week could someone please tell me if this is correct or am i just being fobbed off thank you
