Fuses blowing possible fuel pump issue?

I've noticed an intermittent problem with my car that when i'm driving the car almost feels like its loosing power and judders and the needle on the speedo drops down to zero.  The car doesn't actually cut out but when it comes back to life again the needle on the speedo shoots up and down and then settles again.  Along with this I have had the fuse blown for the fuel pump three times now.

Is it time to get the fuel pump replaced or could it be something that could be fixed without going down that route?  Thanks

In your previous thread I believe the speed sensor, and IC may have been mentioned, along with checking that it isn't clutch related (revs increasing without speed when in a gear). Does the IC display dashes on the display where the mileage should be when this happens? The speed sensor could possibly also be suspected on this age of car.
