Fiesta Indicator Stalk / Trip Reset

Hi all, first post on these forums and I was hoping some of you kind people would be able to advise me with a slight issue I'm having.

Basically I have a 2006 Fiesta Zetec Climate and to reset the trip computer in the dash you press the button on the end of the indicator stalk until you get to the mileage and hold it in.

This has been getting progressively worse over the past 6 months or so to the point where you have to push the button harder and harder to get it to register and skip through the menus. It's now so bad it won't register me pressing it at all.

My questions are:

1) Is there a simple fix for this? Is it as easy as cleaning some contacts or do I need a replacement?

2) If I need a replacement is that easy to do? Can I just pick one up from a scrappy and plug it in?
