  1. Well this is tomorrow's job. Not a ford but an Audi A3. Finally been brought to me now that the noise is unbearable when driving. It also has a broken handbrake csble too. Needless to say this is a wheel bearing that's very near disintegrated!

  2. Hi all, I'm Daniel from Brussels and I'm driving a Focus MK1 for a year already, bought with 48000km (29000miles?) and today with 57000km. It's a Zetec 2.0 and I quite love it. Just here to ask some questions about. Thanks!

  3. Sorry - it's a 1.6tdci 90 bhp 2008 model. I will check the haynes manual to find out where those parts are (new to maintenance!) and then have a close inspection tomorrow. Thanks for the info

  4. if you have the car stationary in neutral gear with the engine warmed up - if you rev the engine and then take foot off the throttle pedal does it take a long time to come back down to tickover speed? if so, it would suggest an air leak in a pipe somewhere around the air intake. That might create same effect you describe.

  5. well, problem is lack of charge in battery. could be duff battery, could be battery is flat as alternator not charging it. If you can start it then ROUGH alternator check is: have car running on tickover, turn all stuff on that uses lot of power - headlights, rear screen demister, quickclear windscreen, heater fan. now increase the engine revs a bit. do the lights go brighter? if so, then it gives an indication that the alternator is doing something. this time of year when it suddenly gets cold is when loads of batteries that were on their last legs give up

  6. I know this thread is very old but I have had my 2005 fiesta for a year now with this very same problem. It comes on about 10 seconds after starting, is worse when the engine is cold and is independent of revs except it seems to go above 1500 rpm. Well I deduced that it must be an electric motor or similar as if it was something caused by the engine turning over it would start with the engine, not 10 seconds after. Having just changed the timing belt, water pump, fuel filter and aux belt with no difference I thought some tracking down was required. Well for me it turned out to be the turbo boost solenoid. This is mounted on a bracket in the top right hand corner of the engine bay, right next to the windscreen wash filler cap. Mine had actually come lose from it's little rubber mounts on the bracket and was buzzing away in contact with the battery box and wash bottle neck. Even when re-fixed it still touched the filler bottle neck. To resolve this I removed the bracket, unscrewed the rubber mounts, cut about a cm off each lug on the bracket, screwed the rubber mounts back in and refitted the solenoid. It now has good clearance all round and I have no hum. I hope this helps someone else and may not be the source of your hum but it's worth checking.

  7. It was too windy this afternoon again to complete the re-roofing: it would've been an ideal afternoon to dry several king size duvets, had I the presence of mind to wash them Tomorrow afternoon's forecast looks promising but then again, so was Tuesday's 24 hours before it unfolded. it's not so much the size of the building but it's awkward shape ( slightly trapezoid rather than truly square) it's shared gutter with the garage

  9. Looks veeery nice. Personally, I perhaps never used reversing light as a primary light source for me when reversing, it sure helps, but I see it mostly as a signal for others to know that I'm reversing, so I would be ok with lowered intensity - I suppose you're still visible with this tint, so...but it depends on your preference :) anyway, for me, thumbs up, it really nicely "divides" the lights...and on the black car...nice! :)

  10. Usually fitting lowering springs or wishbones. The short shaft doesn't need to come out, but falls out no matter how careful I am on the Peugeots lol. Then that disturbs the oil seal which leaks forever afterwards.

  14. I did a thing. Not sure how I feel yet, the light output whilst reversing has definitely decreased, especially on the reverse camera but it looks kinda cool. I may try a slightly light tint if I can't get used to it.

  17. I think it's just our nominated garage being arsey. BTW, it's a Halfords AutoCentre. They are crap but our previous garage of choice closed so some 'wiseguy' chose Halfrauds.

  18. Bikers make far better car drivers and that's a fact. I'm a biker in my heart but haven't ride for 10 years now. Unfortunately there are as many, percentage wise, nobheadz who, and I use the term loosely, ride bike just to cause problems for others. They to me and others are not bikers or motorcyclists. However I do enjoy watching crash bang wallop videos.

  19. This problem can be solved quite easily in most cases. In this case there is still enough of the copper ribbon left. In most cases the copper ribbon breaks much closer to the windshield which makes repair impossible. The best way to repair this is by soldering the wire directly onto the copper ribbon. To do this the electrical insulation of the copper ribbon needs to be removed. this can be done mechanically using a sharp knife or by applying heat. After the insulation is removed the wire can be soldered onto the ribbon. This requires a high power soldering iron which can generate a lot of heat in a short time. The copper ribbon drains a lot of heat into the heated screen wiring so it is important to solder as quick as possible. To prevent the windscreen from cracking during soldering I recommend to clamp a copper heatsink onto the ribbon close to the windscreen during soldering.

  20. A child seat isn't the same though, there's nothing illegal about that, unless your seat belt happens to be bust so you fit a child seat to cover it up, but that's unlikely lol. I would think they'd be interested in advisories about illegal modifications to emission systems though... Or say you had an advisory about tyres 6 months previously, they are probably past it if not changed and would be worth a pull to get some fine money... Fair enough, they're missing a trick there then! [emoji23] What about the DVSA vans with ANPR? Do they have instant access to that info? I see quite a few round here and always wonder how much they know/what they're actually looking for. They do regular pull-ins to go over cars with a fine tooth comb as well, I don't think the traffic cops would know what to look for in regards to DPFs but I'm pretty sure DVSA would. Ah, they know everything [emoji41] Sent from my SM-G930F

  21. All registration documents have been received as you would expect. He bought it from a dealership (not a Ford one, but a Subaru one so its not some dodgy back alley garage type thing) All numbers on the car match up too. I'll advise him about getting a copy of the photo if he hasn't already got one (I haven't checked this yet) I've told him to get in contact with the local authority who issued the ticket in the mean time.

  23. You don't have any human rights by driving a car anyway, police can stop and search you just on their 'gut feeling' if they want... I do see your point though.

  25. From what I read they actually provide a more improved feeling without being that much harder on your backside, if anything at all. Once thing to note though, a lot of forums suggest that the springs only be torqued down once the car is on the ground supporting its own weight. If not, the bushing will bind, deteriorating quickly meaning the springs wont settle correctly and will remain as high as the set you replaced!

  26. I do like have a refreshing walk with Brandy in several of the forecasted showers, and then drying off in the between showers sunshine. My mains powered fire/smoke alarms has a battery back up in each pod, despite them all being linked, for those power cut occasions; I thought they all did. Frying the spices when making a curry or grilling a pan full of kippers, usually trigger the downstairs hall one and a second or two later, all of the others, ring out Much to the annoyance of Brandy and Molly, with their sensitive ears

  27. I have seen this before exactly the same . I expect that your car wing has been repainted as some stage this problem appears some time after the paint job has been done. Funnily enough it was also on a Ford (Ford Escort MK2) the first time I saw this sort of thing. Looks like a re spray to me to fix it. In my opinion I would be very surprised if it was anything else.

  28. You can also officially download the UPDATE from Ford Australia site. It will give you a proper download file according your VIN number. Just register here: https://www.ford.com.au/owner There is a section SYNC SW update...and over there you can download it :)

  29. I prefer to vacuum bleed now. The last focus clutch I bled I done it in less than a minute and around 400-500ml of fluid.

  30. I have not worked on one of these. I assume it has the modern concentric type of slave cylinder. I have read many reports of bleeding these being problematic and people saying it needs to be reverse bled (pumping fluid in via the bleed nipple). I am not sure if that is what you meant by pressure bled. apologies if that is what you have already done

  31. Enter their VIN or Reg on https://www.etis.ford.com/ under the vehicle section. Check for any outstanding field actions, my automatic Fiesta had this and it needed a TCM (Transmission Control Module) update, after this it was fine. If it does need doing get it booked in at your local Ford dealer, it's there responsibility if this issue is due to a recall.

  38. Makes me glad we're with Direct Line! They don't charge anything to change the address or even vehicles!! Considering myself and my mother have three policies (combined), we'd be facing £90 in fees if we moved and were with another insurer. Crazy, when I work in a call centre and know how easy it is to change the address on an account!

  40. Things I don't like - Insurance Co charging me 30 quid admin fee just to change my bleedin address! (Contrary to the fact that the FCA stipulates that such fees must be reasonable and must be reflective of the true cost incurred to the company)

  43. My smoke alarms are mains wired with a remote control switch panel to test without shinning up ladders. They are also linked to my Carbon Monoxide detector. I can press a test button which plays a really annoying, high pitched series of chirps which when detected on a phone app will tell me when they were last tested, how long they sounded & battery back up/mains power condition.

  44. I really need to be more vigilant with the fire alarms!! The downstairs one gets tested at least once a week when my mother forgets about her toast, but the upstairs one is neglected. Fortunately a few weeks ago the council sent somebody round to do tests and found that said alarm was completely dead, and to be honest I'd have never even realised or thought about it.
