  1. if its a 1.8 it could also be the cambelt tensioner or water pump bearing without inspection its hard to say.

  2. The water is usually fed from a single bottle and pump, the pump spins clockwise or anticlockwise depending if the front or rear washer is required. Change the pipes over on the outlet of the pump OR reverse the wires to the pump to fix the problem.

  3. depends what you mean by erratic idling if you mean the idle goes from 670 rpm to 730 rpm this is normal and has to do with the ecu hunting for the lowest emissions flickering headlights at night and on the dash is due to the alternator being routed from the battery through a 7.5 amp fuse which causes the alternator to pulse nowt to do with earth points ford sell an upgraded wire which goes from the posirtive on the battery to the back of the alternator to correct this its a well known issue and ford have a technical service bulletin regarding it on the focus and the mondeo the wir ecosts about £18 from ford this will cure the flickering headlights the idle on some cars gets smoother as the alternator is no longer pulsing qoute from service bulletin Should a customer express concern about flickering headlamps, wavering illumination of the instrument cluster, interior lighting and audio unit the probable cause is an extremely high resistance in the battery wiring harness from the central junction box (under the bonnet) to the B+ terminal on the alternator. To rectify the concern an additional cable should be installed. The high resistance from the 7.5A fuse to the alternator multi plug causes it to "pulse" so the new loom does away with this by taking a new feed direct from the main battery cable on the back of the alternator. !!

  5. believe it or not the cluster can cause a car to cut out on the ford its linked to the sensors connected to the ecu when x amount go down at once due to the cluster not regitering them the ecu senses it revs speed etc all gone and momentarily believes the car is off and cuts out well reported that the cluster can cause this its rare though usually it just plays up but if the right ones go down it cuits out only on the 1998 and 1999 models afetr the revision this wasnt meant to happen just the cluster will go down now

  6. We are currently rebuilding customers own units with a 2 year warranty, this is a very common failure for the Ford Focus instrument cluster - the problem normally starts out as being intermittent, normally the unit will fail when the car has been driven for a while and then will reappear after a few minutes - we also get reports that the engine sometimes cuts out or misfires when the instrument cluster fails. Other common faults include loss of speedo and gauges. These instrument clusters cost a fortune from the main dealer and they only give a 6 month warranty - from info@ecu-testing.com info can also be found all over the web if it wouldnt do it i wouldnt say it
