  1. Me: Got my modded ELM! Yay! Me 5 mins later: Killed my car. Boo. Me 2 mins and a lot of swearing later: Thank holy turdballs I took a save of the ECU configs! Explanation: Got my ELM as I always like to bugger around with things and see what's what. Fine. Really all I wanted to do was to enable auto door locking when you drive off (I live in Gainsborough. They'll have your wheels off if you're going less than 20mph... ) . Found the setting, changed it to enabled and all seemed good! Unplugged the reader and took 'er for a spin round the block. At 3mph my doors locked and i do this face ---> Shortly afterwards on the same trip I notice my cruise control/limiter controls don't respond. I do this face ---> cos I'm thinking I probably caught another setting without realising. So I pull up at my house and plug the reader back in but stupidly forget to switch the engine off. As FoCCCus grabs my cars settings, the engine cuts out and when FoCCCus loads, a crapload of DTC faults appear on EVERY system (BCM, IPC, etc. But most importantly PCM). I do this face ---> and clear them all with the software - they're all loss of signal faults so I assume its cos the engine cut out on its own but the PCM faults persist. I look down the list and see 'Crash'. I do this face ---> as I realise the car thinks its been involved in a crash as the engine was killed and will not allow it to be started again. Lo and behold it wont start again and I can't clear the fault. I'm now doing this face hoping the wife doesn't hear the car 3 ft from the lounge window not starting --->. Thankfully I also had ForScan which did clear the Crash fault and after restoring the settings from a backup I made at first read the car started fine again. I also re-applied the auto-lock setting and was careful not to touch any others. The Cruise still didn't work immediately, but after cycling the ignition completely the controls responded. Happy ending, but it was Brown Pants time for a few minutes... So the moral of the story: ALWAYS take a backup of your car's settings before you tinker and NEVER use an OBD reader while the engine is running! Just don't be thick like me =]

  2. Dee I am happy to send you my caps once I find time to get this done, should be less than a week and I will have maybe 10-12 caps that have been untouched. If you would like them send me a PM with your address and I will get them in the post asap Thanks a lot for this Russ, that was going to be my next question, what set of nuts will actually work. Thanks a lot for the linky there, I will get some ordered today I do intend to pay and join this forum at some point, it's only fair to support the forum given the amount of help and support I have had, plus this is one of the nicest forums I have ever been in most you go in people are at each other £80 left @ bank and I need wheel nuts and rear shoes replacing next, oh and bleed brakes and need to keep um crossed I don't break something else along the way Edit: Just wanted to add, I have just been out with the new socket and breaker bar as I was worried about the socket being right now, so I found the difficult nut that just would not budge with a 400mm extra long torque wrench and me stood on the end of it with 18st of ballast jumping on it anyway I put the new breaker bar on that's 750mm and give it a slight turn and easy as that it undid I am starting to learn that mechanics can be a wonderful thing but its absolutely paramount to have the right tool for the job otherwise its a pain. Result!

My wife suffered migraines for years then a couple of years ago she had a daith piercing in her ear and has never had one since I promise you it's worth looking at I know several people who've had one and every single person says it works Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.tomholroydphotography.co.uk

  4. Just incase you hadn't taken a backup, you can also download the as-built data from here: http://ford.xtlt.ru/ab/ I did have a similar moment of panic turning on hill start assist and DDS for my mum's Focus. After programming the BCM the dash lit up like a christmas tree. I'd already got Forscan installed so scanned and cleared and they went away.

  5. 35 miles a day round trip is not enough for a diesel, you're asking for DPF problems imo. I'd stick with the 1.0 Ecoboost.

  7. I was a teenager when the Escort Cosworth came out. I really wanted one, however I was still a legally a child, and just couldn't make it happen, I went to uni, started work, got married and started a family, and the cossie was just a distant memory. At the end of last year I got talking to one of the private vehicle sales guys at the Ford dealer, whilst picking up my van. And a few months later in April this year I took a Focus RS for a test drive. I was a teenager again. I really started lusting after a Focus, however being a grown up, my 5 series BMW was a much better fit for me. I'm picking my new Ice White Focus RS up Thursday.

  9. There's no way your engine will be fully up to temperature after that. You're reading your coolant temps there pal, oil will take a good 10-15 miles of motorway speeds to get up to temperature.

  10. I should put it in context that work is only 3 miles from my house! 10 years ago with a nice car I brought, I put 23,000 miles on it in 12 months working at the same place 😃

  18. Never had the crash indicator fire, but I think despite the warnings, if you have an as-built, you'd have to have bad luck to completely brick your car. I accidentally turned on loads of stuff the car didn't have and all hell broke loose, but easily fixed. Also, even with VCM you get the mass of comms errors so that just seems to be the system.

  22. Don't be overly worried about the low oil level, apparently the 1.8 Duratec engine suffers from mysterious oil loss, just check around the engine bay for obvious oil leakage. My engine bay is dry as a bone, but mine uses oil between services, as other members on will tell you the same. It's something to do with the oil control rings on the pistons gumming up and letting a little bit of oil through into the combination chamber, just check it every week or so and top up as needed.

I do like that grass stains in white fur come more easily than I'd imagined they would A damp cloth was all that was needed Earlier this evening Pipper decided to roll about in the freshly cut grass, about two stripes behind me as I cut it, covering herself in grass sap! Believe its a very similar if not same engine and i had it remapped from 110bhp to 140bhp it was night n day change.. so much smoother better mpg and pulled like a train in every gear no matter the revs.. pity rest of car was rubbish!!

  30. Need a later pcm update, there was a known issue with certain pcm software which caused this. Basically the egr is not given chance to cycle . Try this, clear the dtcs. Then everytime you Start engine wait a little while before cranking engine over. See if this stops engine light coming on. It's was a temporary fix while ford did another update.

Cheers Jonro, I've re-ordered another plate 😂 But am going to use the Bespooked removable and reusable plate solution system, so I'm going to put it on the drivers side so should be visible to all incoming traffic if I get pulled for it again I'll pull it off hand it to them and ask them where they'd like it to sit 😂 Yh there's been a few changes, a couple more to come ;) the cars in the paint shop tomorrow to be repaired and have some alterations shall we say and there will be plenty of photos when I get her back but doubt it will be for a few or two

  35. Sorry to hear about this mate - unlucky but yep the caps stay on as said above. I've made plenty of time consuming mistakes. I've heard to avoid using a torque wrench like a standard ratchet and only use it for the final bit of precise tightening to prolong its life - you don't want to do in another tool! We have the same wheel nuts (19mm) and I've used breaker bars etc but couldn't get anything to work as good a brute strength with this tool from halfords, been a great little tool. http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/spanners-wrenches/halfords-4-arm-wrench-wheel-brace When you do sort this out and have removed all the nuts holding the discs on you'll probably find they are stuck on with rust - have a sledge hammer handy - works a treat. Normal hammer just won;t cut it. But make sure all the nuts/bolts are undone before you let loose on it! I've never used these myself but they're on my list of tools to buy. You'd need to check whether suitable for 19mm but they may be useful for a rounded one. http://www.screwfix.com/p/irwin-bolt-grip-nut-remover-set-5-pcs/96028. Hope that helps mate and you get it sorted

  37. The procedure to change the CID number of the EVO+ SD-card is not that difficult. Gaining root access to the Android device is the first important step. If you can do this (or already have a rooted device) the rest should be no problem. I am currently working on a guide which describes the exact procedure I followed. However I do not plan to put my guide on a public website. I do not want other people to earn money by using a guide I made. When I finish the guide it will only be supplied to a limited number of enthusiasts that I trust.

  38. yeah, your talking some serious mods to get a NA petrol remapped with any meaningful results. as it is, you may be able to get about 10 extra ponies, given that you have probably lost some of those ponies over the years you might make 130, or there abouts. If you want to get some serious performance then look in to new cams, throttle bodies and perhaps there is a turbo mod out there for it. however, the first two alone plus a remap to get the benefit of them, will probably be in the region of £1000. Cams alone are around £500. in short, unless its a classic, your always better off buying the car you want rather than mod the crap out of it. :) Edit, I think ive seen mods taking this engine up to 210HP gonna cost you ££££

  39. If it's a normally aspirated petrol, the answer is not very easi. Takes a lot of money to get meaningful increases out of one. Put it this way, to even match your ex husband in his ST, you will need to be getting 170bhp because the Focus is much heavier. Should have gone for a car with a turbo on if you want to easily tune.

  42. Some of you may remember reading my rant a few months back possibly even a year ago where I was discussing the vast amount of kitchen appliances; the wife manages to destroy on a yearly basis Most recent appliance being the Bosch diswasher of which is still the current model there still selling in the shop. The drain of ours was blocked with food and some plastic sleeving from Capri sun straws despite my efforts throughout the past ten years pointing out that diswashers are not food waste disposal units and good list be removed prior to inserting. She still never listens and puts my opinion down to an alternative issue rather than listening to the topic which I'm currently reasoning. Anyways I think that was all around last November, well I still haven't replaced that broken dishwasher until today. I'm working night shift this week and i purchased a replacement dishwasher online this morning, when delivering they will remove the existing unit provided it's disconnected. When purchasing online today I didn't know when delivery was going to be but the existing diswasher which has been blocked and broken since November was still connected to the drain and water supply. At 11am today I decided to go to bed having been awake since 17:00 yesterday, I thought the wife would have been content enough considering a new appliance was on the way which made life easier but sadly that wasn't to be. Since i had been so generous to spend my hard earned money on a replacement dishwasher which isint likely to last her more than 12 months she suddenly wanted the existing unit removed immediately and placed outside as Quote "who knows when the replacement will arrive and they need to take the old one away" I explained that removing the dishwasher will expose the U bend under the sink causing water to leak out when the sink is used because the dishwasher drain won't be connected. After hearing that; she wanted to go to the local DIY store and purchase yes spend more money purchasing a blank cap to termperarily use to blank the opening in the U bend until the new dishwasher arrived 😣 So instead of going to bed at 11am I'm under the sink with an adjustable spanner removing the drain adaptor in order for her to take it to the DIY store and purchase a blank to match it's diameter when she decides to go ahead to the DIY store without it because I'm taking more than 10 minutes to remove the connection 😦 So on she goes in the car wasting more fuel and keeping me up even longer going to the DIY store with nothing to get a size reference from or anything other than her own description. She arrived back at 12 noon with nothing as they couldn't provide anything as they didn't know what size, At which point I had the part removed and we both had to go to the DIY store then to source a blank for the drain. They then provided a 3/4" brass blank which doesn't fit when I got home and tried it, so I got a marigold glove and cut a finger off it to put over the original barbed elbow to create a blank; I then try to find my PVC tape to seal the glove part on to the fitting to enable the sink and washing machine to be used until the new dishwasher arrives and I can't because she was using the roll of tape somewhere and lost it 😦 End result was 14:37 when I got to bed having been up since 17:00 yesterday and the sink is now still out of use because there's no PVC tape to seal the glove part and I'm back in work again tonight at 22:00 Got an email there to say the new dishwasher will be delivered on Tuesday next week, All this bother brought upon myself because I put my hand in my pocket and replaced the appliance which has been broken for over six months and the replacement isint even coming until next Tuesday, All of this could have been done at the weekend, she doesn't work or have any schedule except for dropping and collecting the kids from school the whole attitude is completely wrong and going to the DIY store without the part because you Don t feel like waiting 5 minutes is absolutely crazy. Between washing machines and dishwashers there's one required every year due to blocked motors from not checking clothes pockets prior to inserting or not clearing food off the dishes prior to inserting and will not listen to anything you say your told "ow your just in a mood over somthing else" I'm so domented now I can't sleep 😧

  43. I'm not entirely sure if it'll fit a facelift Mk7 Fiesta or not, however I would like to point out that the eBay listing is only for the diffuser - it does not include the rear bumper. The diffuser is pictured on the eBay listing in white (unpainted). That's all you're paying for. Just thought I'd highlight this fact before you committed to purchasing. All the best.

  44. don't forget there is a very high chance you would be caught for customs duties when the item arrives in the UK. And if it is in the hands of Royal Mail/Parcel Force they charge their own admin fee on top of the customs duties for collecting the customs duties from you. There is no way to avoid that fee. It's outrageous. I assume other parcel companies operate similar procedures. You would only get your hands on the item once you have paid the customs duties and then if it is broken etc you have lost the customs duties that you paid (because even if the seller/ebay/paypal refunded, that refund would not include the duties you paid)

  45. I couldn't vouch for how good it is though. Looks like some cheaply made fibreglass thing, it's coming all the way from thailand. Is it an aftermarket splitter you're after? I believe they are different as people retrofitting it to a pre-facelift have to get a new bumper. If you just have a standard black splitter then you could go to a breakers and get one off an ST to fit.
