When using the correct specification high quality engine oil and performing oil changes as prescribed engine flushing addititves are not really necessary anyway.3 points

This garage is talking crap. If the ABS pump is faulty (which I doubt) it it very easy to install a secondhand one. There is no need to reprogram the ABS pump (the focus MK1/MK1.5 is not that advanced). If the ABS pump really needs to be replaced just find yourself a secondhand ABS pump from a similar car of about the same age and it will be plug and play. A 2002/2003 focus MK1.5 is known for its classic instrument cluster problems. Corrosion on the circuit board causes a shortcircuit between the traces on the circuit board. common symptons when this happens are an illuminated ABS light and/or an illuminated parking brake light. In most cases this problem can easily be solved by cleaning the instrument cluster circuit board using alcohol and a soft brush. Secondhand focus MK1/MK1.5 parts are pretty inexpensive these days. A lot of these cars are scrapped because of age so parts are easily available for low prices.3 points

One thing, maybe 2 things I would add that I’m sure Ian might agree is, the use of the correct oil is imperative to the life of the belt. Also the use of additives such as engine flush have a negative effect on the life of the belt so stay clear of using these.2 points

Sorry I haven't been online recently, it's been mad busy at work and although financially that's a great thing, it's a trade off against my time. So, I've retired the 2002 1.4 Petrol Focus CL which was my run around daily driver. Primarily I used it to drive to a location and then take the dog for walks. It didn't matter if the dog got back into the boot soaking wet as it was the old car. The problem comes now where does the dog go in the newer car? The Zetec-S! Well I had a bit of free time today so I got my hands on an 8' x 4' sheet of 9mm MDF, I had already removed the fabric boot floor and thinking of a wet dog, measured and cut some plywood sterling board as a new boot floor. This sits on top of the foam which raises up to cover the height of the space saving spare wheel. I partitioned off the left side for the dog, I intend to cover the MDF here with black lino (wipe clean) and the right side is where I'm going to start to install my audio. A sub and an amp has been buried up in my loft for the last ten years. It used to sit in my Pug 306 GTi-6 that I used to own many moons ago in my youth. I've actually placed the sub and the amp in the car today and secured them to my MDF build. The right side has been raised up a few inches so that I can run all of the cables underneath. Eventually when I run the cables I will just drill them through the top MDF layer so it'll all look neat and tidy (Hopefully) and I intend to carpet this right side the same (or as near to it as I can) as the rear boot carpet. Stage 1 of this project is just to have my current speakers (6) un-amped and as is, with my 2 channel amp bridged into mono for use only by my subwoofer. Stage 2 of this project is to have a 4 channel amp powering the current 6 speaker system. I say 6 because the front speakers have tweeters so I presume as there is only one pair of wires going to the front speakers from the head unit there must be a crossover somewhere in the door and a second pair of leads must come from that to go to the tweeter? Obviously thinking what I do next, I'd like to think about Stage 2 when buying equipment or installing Stage 1. Now talking equipment wise I need some help and advise. I am aware I need a LOC spliced into the front speaker wires from the head unit. Actually I intend to splice into a parrot wiring harness rather than the original audio loom. However I am unsure with which one to go for? Options seem to be (I've spend the last two days attempting to research all of this) Alpine PXE-H660, Alpine PXA-H800, AudioControl LC2i (£120), JL Audio Cleansweep, JBL MS-8, Audison Bit-Ten, Audison Bit-One, Metra Axxess AX-ALOC648, DS-18. However the prices really do vary and I kinda feel £120 is about my limit so my current favorite is the AudioControl LC2i. However there may be lots more tech that I'm unaware of and maybe you guys will be able to tell me? Here's a rather bad photograph taken in almost pitch darkness with a lamp behind me to my right, I'll get some proper photos online tomorrow to display exactly what is what.1 point

It's funny you say that Wilco as just recently on my instrument cluster the needle of both the fuel and temp gauge sit in the middle of each gauge when i turn the engine off also ever since iv had the car the mileage would flash up on the digi clock every few seconds is that bit correct, but the bit that puzzles me the most is the ABS/BTCs lights will come on and could be on for weeks but they can just as easy be off for weeks as well, or they would flash on n off for a few seconds then either stay on or go off completely, Tdci-Peter the underneath of my car is not rusty at all as iv already looked i have taken a load of pictures of the underneath will upload them and you can tell me if its been painted with some kind of rust proof paint as i think it has by looking at it myself, Anyway from what i can gather from both of you is it may not even be a fault in the ABS pump and the sensor on the wheel could be the problem or even the instrument cluster either way it needs more investigation before letting ASM autos come and collect the car,1 point

It all comes down to money at the end of the day. No one wants their insurance to increase and spend more. I don't like bad drivers. Had someone in a golf today undertake me on a merging lane. I was going the same way as him and saw that he went into a shopping area. Just confuses me to why he'd drive fast just to go to the shops. Its half term also so the roads are a lot more quieter especially in the mornings so no reason to rush about. I also had someone in a blacked out newer Mercedes jeep pull out in front. I just pressed the horn (as I have a feeling his window tints made him not see me) and I went around him. Not really angry of the merc guy but people who drive fast just to go to the shops baffles me.1 point

Seems a bit hard to believe when a quick search on the web brings up loads of hits in the UK and the States. As @Mavroz says, the issue appears to affect anything from the Fiesta up to the Edge, Mustang and F350 truck, so pretty widespread. My local dealer certainly seems aware that there have been issues, unfortunately until Ford themselves come up with a definitive fix there is not much they can do.1 point

Some muppet just decided to reverse into me. They had no need to stop and then reverse. Luckily it was low speed and no damage was done. His excuse? He thought I was reversing because there were roadworks and wanted to avoid them. I bet he was attempting to try it on cos I'm a young looking bloke by saying I ran into him when he braked (even though there was nothing to brake for and no need to brake). Good job there are CCTV cameras there and it's right next to the old cop shop and county hall. There would have been proof if he did.1 point

I was a bit suspicious when the garage said it would be £150 to check & fix the ABS, without apparently knowing what, if anything, was wrong with it. And then, like a miracle, two codes (unspecified) pop up which prove that both the pump and one sensor are faulty. Codes are a diagnostic aid, and should rarely be taken at face value without additional diagnostics, especially if there are several pointing at different faults. One fault can easily fool the software into seeing another problem that is not real. Then the stuff about serial numbers matching raised alarm bells. But as I know so little specifically about the Mk1 Focus, it is great that Wilco has popped up to confirm that the garage is making most of it up. But before getting too carried away, there is significant work to be done, checking the IC, and maybe sorting out an ABS fault if one exists. Also corroded brake pipes may be an indicator of a lot more corrosion around the rear of the car. My Mk2 Focus has been very prone to underbody rust at the back. I have spent ages cleaning and rustproofing the rear suspension etc. So a good look under the back, brushing off road dirt, might be a good idea before committing to more expenditure. In my opinion, it would be great to see the life span of a 1.8TDCI Mk1 Focus extended, It can be a ******* good car. But not if the work and cost is crippling!1 point

Much appreciated! Thank you - I think it's subtle enough and goes nicely with the other gold accents on my car. Relieved it all tied together nicely as it was hard to tell from picture alone whilst they were being made miles away from me. De-tangoing (along with chrome indicator bulbs, yes) was something the pro himself recommended. Now that it's done, I can't imagine what gold and orange would look like [emoji23] Haha completely understandable. As above, I don't think I'd do too well with this myself. What's up with your headlights? Have they been scratched, or just getting cloudy? Oh, and as@Jonro2009 said, must be a trick of light. They're both black with a gold pinstripe running along the bottom [emoji6] Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk1 point

Damp evening, cat misjudged the distance between the ~2ft hedge and my roof, slipped down the rear end breaking the wiper arm and leaving scratches in the paint. I'd only had the car a few days, was not happy lol! I don't park on that side of the car park anymore. Still doesn't stop the ***** from jumping on the bonnet and windscreen to reach the roof.1 point

Hi, Just to let you know that you would need to declare a K & N air filer to your insurer as this would be classed as a modification. Regards, Dan.1 point

This is Great,a person i know had a accident last week, only a small one where a woman pulled out on him from a side road and hit the back door and wheel arch so in and had it done, the thing is the woman in the car had her mom in which works at the citizen advice so tried to turn it round to say he pulled out on her which is wrong. She also put in a claim for whiplash,i have got this from what she told her insurance and letter that was sent back saying this, thinking my friend was on his own but one problem is and makes me laugh that my mates car has a Dash Cam and got the whole footage as he was on the main road and she pulled out. She is in a bit of a mess as telling a complete lie and also trying to claim for whiplash and footage been sent to his insurance,i have seen the footage.1 point
