  1. Different key type on the Mk7 but the barrel is removed in the same way. very simple when you have the key...not so much when you're trying to remove one with a snapped blade in it lol. There's no airbag risk from doing this but the immobiliser won't be happy with the pickup ring unplugged. It might be fine once plugged in again but personally I'd disconnect it just in case. The Mk7 has no radio code, you will just need to reset the one-touch windows if it has them.

  2. Hello all I have recently won a bid on eBay for a steering wheel which was listed as a focus steering wheel wheel, I picked it up for only £20 which I thought was good, anyway I have now found out that it’s from a mk5 mondeo and now I’m not sure if it’ll fit my focus, if it does then I will buy the airbag and enjoy but if not that’s a big expense if it doesn’t fit, Cheers

  6. I agree everyone should have their own code reader. I got the modified tunnel rat one for usb and used on laptop with free forscan . Then I bought the WiFi version to keep in glovebox to use with phone. Forscan is free for windows and about six quid for Apple/android app. Well worth having. Fat 32 can be Used up to 2 terabyte drives. For some reason windows disc management restricts to 32gb but other software can format much larger drives as fat32. But for some people fat32 is not ideal as no single file can exceed 4gb with fat32

  8. The drive has to be formatted in FAT32 usually. I don't see how that should trigger a fault code though... is there definitely nothing wrong with that new EGR valve? You should probably get your own code reader for £15 max to clear codes instead of going to the garage lol.

  11. ...and now my parking sensors are working. By themselves. I took the module out and dried it out, so it may have been that or it may have been the new battery. Either way they work! I'll sort that leak out now.

  12. Yep. it's weird. No fault codes.

  14. This is not a double entendre thread is it?😃 No, I find the tray a bit fiddly and easily knocked out of position. but rarely use the armrest cubby anyway, so not a big issue to me. I agree it hardly gives the impression of quality, though.

  15. Hey! I'm new to these forums and this is actually my first post, but I have been doing some semi-relevant work on my Mk3 focus and figured I could help. I'd suggest that you remove the instrument panel cluster from your dash and check the manufacturing date sticker on the back. For the pre-facelift Mk3 Focuses, people had a lot of complaints about the lack of info screens and features on the cluster display and it's actually a pretty common upgrade for people to simply swap their original cluster for one from the Mk3.5 version. These swaps are pretty plug and play and the modules are visually idential, but there are some minor firmware compatability issues that lead to things like the rear parking aid not beeping, automatic dimming not working, and the built-in compass not working properly. If your IPC date is later than your model year, that may be the issue.

  16. Update! BLIS is fixed! I've fitted the new battery. The stop/start now works a charm, but the BLIS faults continued. However, I ordered a diagnostic tool that scans for every module on the car, not just engine fault codes. When the faults appear, if you restart the car they go away, until 10 mins of driving later. Earlier on I started the car with no BLIS faults, like usual, but then I scanned the modules with the diagnostic kit. It picked up a huge list of errors, some of which were things which worked fine. On the list were the BLIS modules. I assume all of these were from the dead battery when they jump started it, as the car threw a load of errors at me before settling down. I cleared the codes on all of the moudles, they all passed the re-scan, and the BLIS modules haven't failed since. They've been working an absolute charm on two long drives now. So there we go, it was a bad battery. Fitting a new battery and clearing the codes fixed the issue. However, my parking sensors still don't work. I took the parking aid module out of the car and... it had water on it. The infamous boot leak has happened on my car, which I'm not worried about as it's easily fixed. Unplugging the module and starting the car causes the car to throw a parking aid failure error, and plugging it back in makes the car think the sensors are fine, but they don't pick up anything. It's most likely a water damaged module. I'm going to disconnect all 4 sensors tomorrow, give the contacts a good clean, then re-connect. I've checked inside the module casing and it's completely dry, so if it is water damaged I'm too late. I spoke to the dealer on the phone and he's booked me in for Saturday 2pm for an autoelectrician to look at the car for me, so all is well. I genuinelly think a replacement parking aid module will sort it though, considering it's next to the boot leak and actually had water on it. I'll keep you guys updated. Sorry for the long posts!

  18. I don't like stripping down the drivers side front brake on my Fiesta ST, only to find the disc seized to the hub. There's only so much hitting my car with a rubber mallet I can stomach, so it all went back together again and Tarnock Ford did the brakes for me (with the parts I bought from Rates Ford at 40% off). Turned out when they did the rears the slider pins were seized so that would probably have been another issue had I got that far. I still saved over £100 on what TrustFord wanted to charge me, but its irritating none the less. I never had this trouble when doing the brakes on my Elise, but I guess that car was kept in the garage and was used on track so the brakes weren't exposed to the elements and were changed more regularly.

  19. I just went out to take a photo - my sensors are in the upper part of the bumper in the black trim, but the tow bar is raised as well because of the height of my 4-wheel trailer, and also has a bike rack fitting (in black in the picture). So it depends where your sensors are placed relative to the tow bar projection. Like I say, the sensors just about pick up the towbar but only when the plastic cover is installed, so now I never put it on.

  20. Looking at haynes manual for mk6 fiesta, possibly same as yours. remove shroud, disconnect plug, unclip and withdraw the chip receiver. put key in, turn to position I, depress two locking pins, if you are looking into key hole it looks like one is about 10 o'clock position, and one at 3 o'clock., then pull barrell out by pulling on key.
    1 point
  21. I agree with Isetta, the sensors are picking up the presence of the tow bar. Same happened to me, but only when I had the plastic cover on, when I took it off they didn't do that any more so it must have been right on the edge of their "vision". Maybe yours are placed to pick up more near the centre of the car? I could suggest drilling new holes further apart for the middle two sensors but that would leave your bumper looking *****.

  22. I admit that I know nothing about how to change the ignition lock on that model. I have done some on older cars (eg. cortina/granada) , on those: remove plastic shroud around streering lock, put key in lock, turn to a certain position, then press the retaining pin/tab in with a screwdriver and pull the barrell out. I seem to think it was only a few minutes job. I would have thought it would be similar. I don't think the principle of these locks has really changed other than the addition of the sensor for the chip in the key.

  23. i have never had parking sensors so don't know much about them, but I am thinking are they detecting the towbar and think it is an obstacle very close by.

  24. A good autolocksmith should be able to rebuild new locks to match your original keys. I've had it done in the past. Also the ignition lock is tricky to remove and requires the right tools and knowledge.

  25. For 150 your paying for his knowledge and equipment and his time , I don’t think it’s that unreasonable to be honest especially if he’s mobile . My local ford garage charges that an hour minimum .... the locks are all the same just make sure you get the same style of remote . Why don’t you fit the door lock have a look at the ignition if it’s too fiddly get him to fit it and programme it at least if he ***** it up it’s his repair costs

  26. don't know if prices good or not. Can someone who is expert on Forscan advise if this can be used for the key programming / deletion. I used Forscan on a 2008 Focus to program a 2nd key when the car only came with one key. I can't remember if it could delete the 'lost' key or not. If you have a good fault code reader eg. from tunnelrat electronics amongst other for under twenty quid, and then get Forscan software (free) and get the extended licence (free) needed for key reprogramming, and have windows laptop to operate that software then you might be able to do it cheap, but need someone more expert on Forscan to advise if it can delete a lost key and if it is compatible with 2009 fiesta key programming. the £20 spent on fault code reader is money well spent anyway because of the usefulness of this in the future on cars in general.

  31. Welcome to send me an abusive PM to let off some steam!! I would love it if one day a year, we could tell customers exactly what they can do with there complaint . Not quite Purge day, but full on rant at the customer and they are the ones who have to take it without any coming back . My guess is that when you're on your bike you're tilting more and your phone is picking this up. I guess you could tilt in a car but probably not enough (unless you drive like Ken Block or something ).

  32. I do like getting a promotion at work. Interviewed for my manager's former role on Monday and was offered it as a 6 month secondment with the intention to flexibly deploy me to the role permanently at the end of it. If both myself and my managers are happy I move into the role, if not then I just stay where I am. I've not been in a formal management role before and will be dealing with a team of 12 (many of them I have worked with for the best part of 12 years). The original interview date was supposed to have been the 19th March but obviously got postponed due to the impending lockdown. Shielding at home for the last months hasn't exactly been good for me, but somehow I must have done something right on Monday. I'll be lazy and say my I don't like here. The timing of the role couldn't have come at a worst time. My current duties are to deal with the data side of things in Street Works and the DfT have launched today the biggest change up of systems to affect all Highway Authorities and utilities (originally supposed to have gone live on 1st April). Our system provider's software fell over on Monday during my interview (I was blissfully un-aware that my colleague was cursed yet again with things going wrong while I am off/unavailable ), and then fell over again today!! Don't need this right now when I'm supposed to be starting my new role

  33. I can't believe it's been 3 and a half months since lockdown and these restrictions came in place. Haven't gone to uni or my two hospital placements since. Just been at home since making sure my mental health is in check and thinking of what physical activities I can do to keep busy and not overthink about stuff. Dad is thinking of selling sisters car as she hasn't driven her car in months and the neighbour across the road is happy to keep it in her driveway but it feels rude when her family have to park in front or somewhere else. Might clean her car and take pictures of it to give to dad to put for sale. Might get a Peugeot 107 again for her well really for me and dad to use as a second car 😆. Also busy applying for jobs which I need to do first before doing other stuff. Happy the careers advise team in my uni removed the 3 appointments per term cap. Also booking my appointments with this particular lady who has been helping me which currently at the moment is via zoom calls. Might also clean the car as I think I missed 2 months.

  36. Don’t get too worried over mot advisories. I would advise checking it out yourself and if you think it looks bad then replace/repair as required. You could take it to a different tester next year and he might say nothing about it. Without seeing it, it’s impossible to give an opinion.

  38. Powershift is just a description, not a brand name. Ford Powershift units are manufactured by Getrag and there is more than one type. Volks/Audi dual clutch units are manufactured by Borg Warner Just to clarify re the Getrag Powershift, the vast majority of problems relates to the Getrag Powershift DCT250 which has "Dry" clutches and was fitted to Ford, Renault and Citroens with the lower powered engine units in – these have well known problem that have been kicking about for years. This DCT250 is the trans that was fitted to Ford Fiesta that the USA market purchased 1,000s off, hence the problem being mainly in the states as uk and Europe usually buy manual trans for their small cars. The unaffected Getrag Powershift DCT450 which has "Wet" clutches is fitted to numerous Volvo models and higher powered Fords such as the Mk4 Mondeo (petrol and Diesel, excluding 2.2 diesel), the Mk5 Mondeo diesel, S Max diesel and Focus ST diesel. On certain current Ford models it is now also available in 8 speed spec The DCT450 clutches are not slipping/burning when the the veh is stationary/speedo at zero as the trans has a unique feature of releasing any pressure/load onto the clutches in those circumstances. As long as the DCT450 trans oil and filter are changed every 37, 500 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first, it is pretty reliable. Dave, you don’t have to wait until 2020 – The Mk5 Mondeo Petrol models have had “normal” torque converter type trans since introduction in 2014. It is called the 6F35 Mid Range designed by Ford USA and GM (General Motors) in a joint venture quite a few years ago. Each now manufacture their own now “in house” It is a 6 speed trans but has been available in the American Ford Fusion in 8 speed format for quite some time. It is now also available as 8 speed in the Mondeo Mk5 peterol models. 2015 onward Ford Diesels still use the Getrag Powershift and some current models are 8 speed. Ford may have stayed with the DCT450 Powershift on diesel models as it takes more max torque than the 6F35, which leaves the 6F35 a bit “close to the mark” if it was fitted to a current twin turbo 2 litre diesel (This is only my opinion, not a published fact) Also Focus Mk3.5 (approx 2016 onwards) use a “normal” type torque converter trans designated the 6F15 The new Focus Mk4 Auto again uses a “normal” type torque converter trans designated the 8F24, and it is an 8 speed trans. I do agree the ZF 8 speed is a great transmission and used in vehs such as BMW and Jaguar. As Ford have manufactured/supplied their own in house torque converter type trans since at least 2014 you will not see the ZF 8 speed in a Ford. If Powershift was originally designed just for Formula one, then so must the DSG unit made by Borg Warner have been! The Mk4 Mondeo petrol and diesel use the DCT450 except for the 2.2 Diesel which uses a “normal” type torque converter trans

  39. I can tell you exactly what that is, i'll lay bets that your car had a Parrot Bluetooth system fitted at some time and they've removed the controller and microphone but left the main unit fitted. It's the main unit beeping to tell you that the parrot has a missing component or a disconnected cable. When i got my car a Parrot was already fitted and the control unit had a loose connection and kept making that noise when knocked. If you look behind your radio or behind the glove box you'll likely find a blue box like one of these- If it isn't that i'll eat my Public Order Helmet.
