Jez
All the VIN deciphering services on the web seem to be designed for older Fords - all of them say my car's VIN is 'invalid', so I guess Ford changed things a bit recently. :-) I think my car may even have been built in 2010. Here's the VIN (and my best attempt to decode it thanks to this thread): ===== VIN: WF0JXXWPJJAL73305 WF0: Ford Europe J: 5 door hatch XX: Not used for cars W: Built in Spanish factory P: Built in Valencia factory J: Fiesta model type J: Check repeat of letter 4 A: (year, probably 2010) L: (month, probably Jan or Feb) 73305: Assembly sequence number ===== So, several of these are extemely new (like the J for the 5 door, and for the Fiesta model type). The two I'm still not quite sure on are the year and month. Given that '9' for the year means 2009, my best guess is that this was built in 2010 (I bought it in 2010 and it was new, so I doubt it was 2008!) Can anyone confirm this? As for the month, apparently these don't just start at A for January and increment, so you need a lookup table to know what 'L' means. Anyone have such a table? Cheers! Dont quite understand what you are getting at here mate, J has always been 5 door hatch in position 4 J has always been Fiesta in position 9 WFO defines Ford Europe,as opposed to Ford America or Ford Australia,It has no bearing on the country A is indeed 2010 year Dave

Also, any idea on the month?
mark t
Rubbish, it says my 3 door is a 5 door multi purpose vehicle!
pikestones
The site you are linking back to was last updated in 2003 and uses the american VIN codes for bodies ,which are slightly different than european codes.Hence the wrong data some people are getting. The site is good for tracing cars built 20 years ago, most of the factories refered to dont even build cars any more! Langley was vans, that closed in 1997 Halewood stopped building fords with the demise of the escort van(1998?) Dagenham built its last fiesta in 2002. Cork closed in 1984 Amsterdam (trucks) closed 1981. Regards dave
