AndrewL
Just checked my oil level and it's just above the minimum level, this seems a bit odd as I've only done 7.5k miles and after a year in my mk6 it was still a way above the min mark Anyone else have any experience of oil consumption in the 1.6 petrol? DONFRAMAC
Hi I didnt think we were supposed to use castrol edge in our petrol engines Anyhow what benefits are you getting using this super expensive oil over castrol magnatec 5-30 Jamie Ford were happy enough to use Magnatec at my last-year service, but that is included in their costing of my 3 year maintenance contract. Old Fiestas, pre-Mk 6, had to use special Ford oil, and the cylinder head, etc have been extensively reworked for the Mk 6 and on, so you can put the best in if you want, especially once the piston-rings are fully bedded in and giving minimal oil consumption. You can get even better types of fully synthetic oil if you browse Opieoils website. The best type cannot be mixed with the normal factory-produced long-chain oil molecules. I think, with Edge, you could top-up with Magnatec, so you wouldn't need to flush your engine thoroughly to put in the very special type, at a service.
