Well I've just managed 517 miles on a full tank, averaging 70mph, loaded with luggage and 3 children. Fuel computer said 56.7 mph.

I have 2.0tdci focus c max thought the car did well.

When my dad had a 55' reg 2.0 TDCI mondy years ago, we drove 1300 miles during summer holidays with 3 fill ups with still 400 miles still left on the trip computer. That's at motorway speeds from the south to Aberdeen via the midlands, lake district, edinburugh so I guess just under 600 miles a tank? Bare in mind, not driving economically ;). I think it was like £60 to fill up at the time, pretty good car in comparison to his current car, bmw 520d which manages 600 miles with a £80 fill up.

In my old car (1.2L Petrol engine), a full tank was about £40-£45, it seemed to vary.

From that i'd get about 430 odd miles or so according to the trip computer, as for the MPG, it never went above 45.1 MPG.

In my new car (1.4L Diesel engine), I've only ever had half a tank, but going by figures, a full tank is about £46.

On half a tank it's showing about 230 miles til the pump.

I'm going to go off on my lunch break shortly and fill her to the brim, so i'll let you know what it says then.

I made two trips over the weekend (About 12 miles total each way), part stop start traffic, according to the trip computer I managed an average of 47.5 MPG which is a little lower than expected.

Something I do find interesting is when I put the car in Neutral and "Coast" (Going down a hill normally) the MPG shoots right up to 99.9 MPG, although you somewhat expect a significant increase I didn't think it would increase to almost 100 miles per gallon rolling it in neutral!

I dont know as i have never driven with a full tank, i only ever fill it half way which usually says about 320 miles on the trip compy which is enough to get to another garage. :)

700 miles per tank normally, 750 on a really good long motorway run keeping up with the traffic.

99.9mpg is the highest the display can handle, but it is much more than that really if you coast downhill at motorway speeds - thats one of the ways of keeping the overall mpgs high.

you will use zero fuel downhill if you keep it in gear as then the injectors shut of completely, only when the antistall kicks in or you accelerate they re-open and the displays are nowhere near accurate, I filled up drove to Heathrow and back 480 mile round trip and worked out at 57mpg, but the computer said 61mpg

Yep, completely agree with that. The only problem is that you slow down quicker if you leave it in gear as you have to overcome the friction in the gearbox and engine in overrun, like its the wheels turning the engine instead of the other way around.

The readout is not accurate at all, especially on shorter trips. The only real way to measure this is to fill to the brim every time and note the mileage and how many litres of fuel you put in.

Just though i'd update, went to the local garage to fill up at lunch, I had to pay much less than expected to fill up!

Was on half a tank, to fill the remaining half with Diesel only cost £17.....

I thought that wasn't right as I kept filling up..... eventually after 3 clicks from the nozzle It finally dawned on me the car was full....

Not even in my 1.2 Clio did £17.00 do half a tank, let alone a 1.4 Diesel!

So far, Diesel, although apparently more expensive, seems to be costing me less and less each time!

The price of Diesel has been dropping, it's currently 105.9 at my closest garage, another thing to take into account is the shape of the tank as all models are different, on mine it is significantly larger on the top part of the tank, some are opposite, but the gauge will still read half on my 60 litre tank when there is only 23 litres in there, the only accurate way is to note the litres that you put in to the mileage

I paid £1.139/L when I put some in on Saturday which was pretty cheap. Not sure what I paid earlier as I didn't bother getting a receipt....

the best I got out of my mondy was 850 miles or so on one tank! that was a good month I think though, as after that I was off work for a few months, then the weather turned, and now I get about 300 as I am doing town driving only :p
