Superchips/Bluefin claim the 185ps st tdci runs out of puff before it gets to its claimed top speed,

I enquired if the speed limiter can be deactivated and they still claim after a remap it will not pass 135 mph hmmmm

If the Focus Estate can do it in the 140PS state of tune, then I would think the ST can.

I doubt they have changed the ratio of 6th gear, as it is only there for economy, even on the ST.

There should be no limiter, even the petrol ST is not limited afaik. It just runs out of push at 154mph.

here is the transcript of the email

Hi James.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, but the car ran out of puff before it hit the limiter, so there was no need to raise it.

Kind regards,

Dominic

Dear James,

Thank you for your enquiry.

It was our experience that the car runs out of power before it reaches
any sort of speed limit.

Kind regards,

Dominic

I think they are just saying that the map will not increase the top speed, only acceleration, in gear power, etc.

Which makes sense as that engine in both 140PS and 185PS tunes, have a top speed of 135mph...

Hi Alex

According to the brochure dated september 14 (latest focus brochure)

The Focus with the 2 litre diesel (150ps) with manual gearbox has a top speed of 130 mph. Estate the same

The Focus st with the 185ps diesel engine has a top speed of 135 mph (both estate and hatch))

so apparently 30ps equals a 5 mph

Bluefin gives an increase of 39 bhp (39.5ps)

Making the focus st tdci 222ps

How can the bluefin increase not affect top speed.

it does not make any sense at all.

It depends where the power increase is in the rev range.

Diesels do not have a powerful top end, their punch comes from low down and mid range.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ford understated the top speed of the 150PS engine to make the ST looks faster.

They have done it in the past.

The above is factual, my Bluefin remapped diesel TXS will top out at 155mph - unmapped it's 143 mph BUT the torque through the gears is almost scary @ 505nm max

Okay

so what do i get for my 399.00

Faster 0-60.

Lower torque restrictions in various gears.

Sometimes better response.

Pull more "train-like", lol.

You get a proper performance diesel that'll wipe the floor with many petrol equivalents :)

Both petrol and diesel are limited (155mph & 135mph respectively).

To be frank why should anyone ever be concerned with top speed unless they live right by the autobahns?

It's not the top speed that's important but the performance you get within the legal speed limits.

Petrol = 155mph , diesel = 135 mph :)

Just to add, the ST250 is quicker from 0 to 60 than Ford quote.

I have done 0 to 100 in my works ST estate in 7.8 and that's even with all the extra weight in the back.

(Speed reached in a safe and authorised risk assessed manner during a blue light run).

Tuning a diesel is all about '' driveability ''
