Keyless ignition security

I have a 2016 fiesta 1.0 100 titanium with keyless ignition. How secure are these and should I be taking any precautions?聽

Not very secure, although more secure than having keyless entry as well.聽 The extent of precautions really depend on where you live/park, and how desirable the car is.聽 Titanium's are less likely to be stolen than sporty models for example.

Some people just disable the OBD port which is easy and a one-time operation (just remember to enable it before servicing).聽 Others fit steering wheel locks or pedal locks every time they park which is a lot of hassle but will prevent a driveaway and hopefully act as a visual deterrent against breaks in's.

There is a good vid on youtube which walks through the options to solve. Also, a very long thread on here discussing the same.

I just use a Faraday pouch they work perfectly, they're very cheap and are no trouble聽to use.

I have a ghost alarm fitted, this can be costly, however it works wonders as the car wont start without a code. I also use a key signal聽blocking pouch during the night for a little bit of extra security.聽馃憤

Has anybody seen the news recently. Ford have released motion activated key fobs which automatically switch the signal off when no movement is detected for 40 seconds. Maybe something worth looking into.

But that will only stop the "relay" theft, ie, they聽boost the power of your key inside your house etc. There are聽still the OBD thefts.......

Any car/van regardless of make can be stolen via OBD...

Except the car has got to be physically broken into which is less likely. On new models eg . Focus Mk4 keyless entry can be disabled if that's a risk factor. Otherwise I just use Faraday bag as do others聽
