Alex.S
Anyone got one of these? If so, what’s your thoughts? Obviously manuals best with a ‘warm’ hatch but what’s the Auto like?
Guy Heaton
I have one, got it in June Book is only .1 second slower to 60. It feels quicker midrange and top end than it does lower down. Box is very smooth and gear changes are quick. S mode holds gears for longer so is good for a blast and of course there are the paddles if you can be bothered. Takes a second or two when going from r to d or d to r to actually apply drive., longer than other autos I've had. But in drive it is smooth and quick. 8th is nice and long which I like. 70mph at 1750rpm is good. The engine is gutsy, makes a good noise, wants to rev and at 2000 miles now is nicely freerevving. Good low down torque for a petrol but it is crying out for the 200bhp version, the focus is a big car these days. It depends what you want. Auto suits me 95% of the time, and there is S mode. Eco mode can be useful, it makes the box change at lower rpm which I use when I'm just pootling to work. I've owned older vx and mb autos, and driven a few audi/vw dsg cars. The 8speed is much better then the older boxes and almost as smooth as the dsg which I rate highly. As autos go its a good one. I'd quite like to drive a manual to compare though.
