st line and titanium x

Featured Replies

Hi

Im looking at getting a new car, I have a focus and was looking at getting another but a fiesta would suit me well and is cheaper.

I currently have a titanium focus and most of the features I do not use, only feature I do use is the sat nav and the parking sensors come in handy.

I'm unsure if I should go for the st line or titanium x, the st line looks nicer to me.

Options I would like to have is ford sync 3 sat nav, rear parking sensors and climate control.

Does the st line have climate control as standard?

Also I would be looking at the 1l ecoboost 140ps or maybe the 125ps, but unsure on this currently.

Thinking what would best choice based on what I have said.

Howdo,  Are you buying new or used?

If new and on pcp I have found the titanium and titanium x to be the most expensive monthly, compared to their equivalent active/stline/x.  I think this is because they don't hold their value as well.

If used then yes, titanium will be a good value choice because of this.

I'm guessing you're looking at the Mk8 Fiesta?  ST-Line doesn't come with climate as standard.  But it sounds like you don't want all the extra luxury of a Titanium X either.  ST Line X is probably what you're after, sporty looks and climate as standard.

Hi

I'm buying new and outright, actually it was the st-line X I meant to put as I believe that comes with sync 3 as standard and has the climate control also, plus I like the looks better.

What do you guys think on the engine, unsure on the 125ps or 140ps 1 litre, I do a mix of driving but mostly minor roads, just feel I would prefer the 140ps.

You can't get the 140 on the Titanium, on the ST-Line it's only about £300 more than the 125 and well worth it IMO.

If buying new and outright I'd absolutely go for the 140ps engine.  Can't see any reason not to!

ST Line X with the 140ps engine and rear camera pack (£300 option) seems to fit your criteria.

Cheers guys, st line X does seem to be the good option for me, not worried about reverse camera, do have it on my focus but find it a bit pointless, I like the rear sensors though so would get that option fitted, It comes to about £21k I think, so part exchange and some haggling might get it to around £19k.

Is the st line x keyless entry?

Keyless entry is an option but you should get keyless go.

I'm not worried about keyless, but might consider it, do have it on my focus though so may miss it if I didn't.

Does the Mk8 come with motion key fobs yet?  If not, I'd advise against keyless entry atm!

Have you considered private sale of your Mk2.5?  £2k off for PX and haggle doesn't sound like much?  Though admittedly I've never bought brand new lol.

Just looked on Ford site, and I think the st line x does have keyless and motion sensor key fob , it has it as an option but clicking on the option it says its standard on the st line x.

Not considered private sale, my focus is only worth about 2k as you say and its got some minor cosmetic damage to the paint work and a few minor issues currently so think I would rather just PX.

Keyless is still an option afaik. I went for the camera as sensors only were £250 and both were only £50 more at the time of ordering. I thought it was a bit of a gimmick but actually find the camera useful when reversing up to things as Fiesta rear visibility is not great.

I'd advise going very carefully through your desired spec with your salesperson when ordering - several members have reported not getting what they expected due to differences between various Ford literature, the Ford website, and what the salesperson has on their ordering guide. For example, the latest Price List/ordering guide I have (August 2019) shows an ST-2 as having EATC in one place and manual air conditioning in another!

Thats ok then, as not bothered about keyless entry, I don't ever look at the camera on my focus but with what you said about the visibility being restricted in fiesta I might see about getting that as well, thanks for the advise about ordering and the options, strange how it can differ.

Hi Steve,

Just to add my thoughts, I had a similar choice to make last year when I bought my car and I went for the Titanium as I wanted the B&o (was buying a 1yr old car) and that's all there was available.

I really wish I'd gone for the ST Line now as I just think it looks so much better.  So on pure aesthetics I would go for that if I had my time again.  In fact I'm gonna make Roger (Eric B) an offer for his when he's bored of it 😇 😉

Titanium if you want "comfy" ride - ST-Line if you want "sporty" ride

If you've been used to a Titanium Focus I'd test drive the ST-Line 140 first as you might find the suspension a little stiff for your liking.

Otherwise I'd recommend the ST-Line X 140 as the best option for the features you require. Got mine about a month ago and so far apart from a few minor niggles I'm very happy with it.

The st line x 140 is what I’m looking at, I used to have a fiesta zetec before my focus.

How long did you have to wait for your car?

There's a thread on here "Mk 8 Delivery Delays" starting late 2017 and running to about 35 pages, mostly concerning Titanium X and ST-Line X. Some of us waited 6 months, some even longer. I think things are a bit better now!

Lol - as long as you're not thinking "One careful OAP owner, polished every day, vacuumed weekly, never taken over 2,000rpm etc"😀

It's a lease car. I ordered it at the end of July was delivered in first week of October. Around 10 weeks.

Slightly off the original topic (aren't I always), but must say I was very impressed with mine this morning. It was parked outside our caravan at the top of Wensleydale last night, temperatures were -4 or so and still showing -1 this morning when I got into the car which was covered in ice. It fired instantly at first touch of the button. This is a marked contrast with my first Fiesta back in 1980 which went into a sulk and refused to start if the sun went behind a cloud. So some progress in the last 39 years!😀

Ah, I remember those days well. Lying in bed on a cold frosty morning, contemplating a hard days work ahead whilst listening to the early risers churning over their starter motors until the battery gave up. Waiting for the swearing and slamming of doors as they stomped off indoors to find their can of easy-start. More swearing bonnets slamming and the optimistic sound of a starter motor spinning ever slower until it gave up yet again..

Get up for a nice bit of Bacon and Eggs and a cuppa then smugly go out to my MK 3 Cortina 2000 GXL with twin choke Weber carbs and fire her up on the first turn of the key.

Jump in and roar off avoiding the neighbours all throwing their empty cans of easy start at me.

That MK3 GXL never failed to start even on a 10 year old battery, even if it only had enough juice to turn over 1 or 2 turns it fired up.

Unlike every other car of that era I owned which at the whiff of a cold or damp  morning would usually fail to start.

Just got me thinking the ST line X doesn't have the keyless start I don't think as standard, but does have a start button I believe?

Does mean I would put key in ignition and then press start button?

No, it's a bladeless key. As long as the key fob is in the car just press the clutch pedal and hit the button. Most people just drop it in a convenient cubby or cupholder, or leave it in their pocket or bag.

Yeah, I think a lot of the problems back then were when Ford thought they could make carburettors. I had no problems with a Mk 1 Cortina which had a Zenith (later swapped for a big Stromberg), or a Capri which had a Weber. My Escort Mk 1 was as good as gold after the FoMoCo effort was swapped for a Zenith conversion. When we had the Mk 1 Fiesta I had an old Mini as a back up and that would start even with a flat battery if you parked on a bit of a slope and let it roll to bump start it.
