Coronavirus-A More Serious Thread

Just looking at the latest statistics on the Government "dashboard". While deaths continue to show a downward trend (though not as fast as we'd all like to see, I'm sure) at -35.4% over the last 7 days, the number of cases seems to be sticking and has only fallen by 7.3% in 7 days.

Then I noticed that today only only 0.41% of tests resulted in a "case" (6,609 "cases" from 1,614,145 tests) whereas a few weeks back it was 7% or so. It's down to the vast increase in the number of tests being carried out (an increase of 73.5% in the number of tests over the last 7 days). They must be testing anything that moves!

As ever, it shows that you have to be careful when interpreting statistics but also that the news on "cases" is better than it appears at first glance.

Agreed. As ever, the media will be reporting an increase in cases without having a clue as to the data behind it. Number of tests increased 75% this week due to all the rapid testing going on in schools.
