Do you need a login to ETIS to see that?

I think you do need to register, I just registered as an independent, all I needed was an address, nothing else. It's a bit annoying really, a lot of the info used to be available without registering. I mainly was curious about build dates.

Are you speaking from experience there?😀

  • Just had 2nd service 18 plate 125 - no problems. From Carbuyer: Are there any known EcoBoost problems? The EcoBoost tech has now been fitted to millions of engines, and is really pretty

  • Yes the exterior lights come on and the door mirror puddle lights come on also. You seem a bit obsessed with lights, you sure you'd not be better off buying a Christmas tree 🤣

Is this the valve? November 2019 built engine.

Edit, I was referring to the silver object right side on a slant, but I think that's just the high pressure fuel injector yes?

is this the revised 1.0 ? where is the turbocharger ? about the cylinder deactivation solenoid , I'm not sure but may be its that one just behind the oil filler cap , there should be another one on the exhaust side ( or the intake side if this is the exhaust side, I can't determine which is which !!! ) I need to know where the turbo is to specify 😄

this is a video for the 1.5 ecoboost with cylinder deactivation , its obvious that the actuator solenoid is internal within the cylinder head, not noticeable from outside !!

but there must be some sort of electrical connection visible from outside to operate the solenoid 🙂

I'm pretty sure it's the revised one at this point. Although not sure how many features in the 1.5 are shared with the 1.0, for example the dual injectors? Port and DI? Or if the 1.0 only comes with DI?

Here's a wider view of the engine bay, I think the turbo is around back? I'll be honest it's a lot different compared to the previous 1.0, both in noise and looks.

Interesting that the video quotes 210PS.  I wish.

Don't the ST Fiestas come with the 1.5 200PS engine?

Turbo is at the back on the revised version. Must say it does look neater with the engine cover. (I put a Focus one on my car but it did take a lot of carving to fit, whereas I believe on the Mk 7.5 it was an easy fit.)

Interesting what you say about sound. I've only driven a revised version in the Puma so that was an MHEV also, but it did seem quite "growly" and perhaps slightly less smooth than mine.

Fiesta ST 1.5 is claimed 200ps according to all Ford literature I've ever seen.

Yep but Ford inexplicably detuned it to 182ps for the Focus.

Ah I see, maybe CO2 relatred, and the expectations they will sell more 1.5 focus than 1.5 ST fiestas? The 1.5/200 ST Fiesta is 158g CO2 on WLTP, and I think the 1.5/182 manual Focus on the older NEDC is 127g CO2 and 137g CO2 on the 8 speed auto.

And now they have dropped the 1.5/150/182 ecoboost for the 1.0/155 with MHEV they have been able to drop CO2 on WLTP to 116g - 125g CO2 for the manual version.

The revised ecoboost seems really interesting to me.

As far as i can see in that picture the exhaust manifold is not located at the rear and the cams are driven by a chain (hence the new metal structure).

I did some digging and it's already been sold here in Spain with the 95hp version of the fiesta. Needless to say the engine bay in the pic on this thread seems a lot more clean.

Are there any sound clips of the new engine?

I tried a 125mHEV puma titanium (yea no the st line sadly) the other day and it felt.. weird. My Fiesta ST-Line 125 feels waaaay more snippy and responsive even though i was using "sport" mode on the puma.

🤔

The ecoboost doesn't have a conventional exhaust manifold as such, it's integrated in the cylinder head.

Managed to find the following article which gives a decent explanation of how cylinder deactivation works:

https://www.theengineer.co.uk/downsizing-on-demand-ford-eyes-ecoboost-evolution-with-cylinder-deactivation-tech/

I've read elsewhere that the cylinder deactivation was the main reason for going from belt to chain cam drive. Apparently cylinder deactivation imposes different loads on the valve train and chain copes with these better than belt. It all looks very complicated!

The Puma is a good 100kg heavier than the Fiesta and with a higher centre of gravity.  With all SUVs there's clever tech trying to disguise the weight and the top-heaviness, but physics can't be denied.

I saw a really good video on Fords cylinder deactivation for those of us that prefer pictures to words!

Odd that it's completely different to VAGs system, they used a split camshaft that was 'slid' out of the way of the valves.

Lol I'm sure the Ford system will be much better than VW's😀

Isn't that the same video @Eng_Ahmad1986 posted a little earlier in the thread?

Yeah, you can't expect the Puma to feel as nippy as a Fiesta even with the same power engine and my 140 felt very lively in comparison when I got back in it after the test drive. As I mentioned though, the MHEV just didn't feel as sweet as the old engine and I'll be interested to try one in a Fiesta when things get a bit more back to normal.

Thats the new 1.0 ecoboost not sure if they are fitted in Fiestas yet but they are in the new shape Focus. Most interesting thing with these is the fuel system now operates at 350 Bar rather than 200 Bar like in the older Mk7.5 fiesta.

Too add the 1.5 engine in the ST Fiesta has both port and DI injection although the port injectors have a very small flow rate. The newer 1.0 doesnt have port injection.

I have a Fiesta Active, wonder if the 1.0 uses both port and direct injection on the fuel system? I haven't been able to determine this yet. The videos above were of the 1.5 and it has dual injection methods by the looks of it.

If it has port injection the HP pump has a 2nd outlet on it to supply the port injector rail. Although I dont think the 1.0 has it.

Oh...that's where I saw it!! 🤦‍♂️

Holy Ford, these 1.0ecoboost sound terrifying, anything from coolant issues to full blow engine failures.  Are they all just ticking time bombs, was planning on replacing my car for a mk8 fiesta. But reading all this, make myself very uneasy and extremely cautious of anything Ford ecoboost.  Have they fixed all these issues for a 2019+ model, I even hear they have issues even with the 1.5tdci.

They're actually pretty nice engines. Ford has sold millions of cars fitted with Ecoboost engine so a few failures are prone to happen. No one knows how well the newest iteration lasts though, since it has some bigger changes compared to previous ones (turbo in different position, chain instead of belt, cylinder deactivation etc). What comes to the previous 1.0 Ecoboost version (In Fiesta 2018-2020) it should have pretty good reliability since most teething problems were solved at that time.

Any one ever tried to activate the auto door locks when driving away? I have read it can be done with Forscan but I wonder is there a quicker and easier way?

Has anyone installed foot well lighting? I have asked the garage to do this for me but say they can't find were it plugs into? I am aware it can be done using genuine ford ambient lights

Footwell and other lighting mods are actually not super difficult to do if you have some basic skills.

about the footwell lights, I installed the genuine ford lights, pretty easy and straight forward, only the driver's side connector gave me some pain to find it, but what really annoys me is that they stay on all day and night, and they don't switch off instantly after locking the car, they stay on for 10 minutes, this is not the case with the fiesta that came from factory with those lights fitted, they don't switch on at day, and they switch off immediately after you lock the car, I'm worrying about their life span in my case, would be much shorter 😄

It is probably how the MK8 has been configured by the factory.  However if it was genuine ford lights,  I think they lifespan should be good.
