2009 1.4 tdci camshaft sensor location

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! My car is throwing up P0341:00-25 camshaft position sensor error, where is it cause the Haynes manual is useless and what needs to be removed to gain access? Also anyone have any idea on a replacement part number?

Cheers!

  • It's right near the cam sprocket, top left as you look at the engine, held in with a single Torx screw.

  • Just been to pick my nephews car up after his mot, they had a fiesta there going for scrap and let me take the crank sensor, hopefully this'll get me going again but unfortunately it's not the weather

  • It was me, hell of a memory, I've kept the top off the air filter cover so I can mess with that plug, if that plugs being a 🤬 though it usually throws a few codes up at once, for example an injector o

New cam shaft sensor in, no change, I really dislike this car 😂

Did it start showing the fault code suddenly or did you buy it like this, does it cause limp mode? Could it be someone has replaced timing belt and got timing one notch out. Don’t know if fault code means sensor not detected or it is detected and ecu is saying camshaft is not synced with crankshaft properly.  Have you actually cleared the code and it then came back? Strightaway ? Or only after driving a bit?

Had the car for 4 years now, broke down a few days ago, managed to get it home, now it cranks but won't start, clear the codes, turn key, after a few seconds of trying EML & P0341 code, I'm hoping the new sensor is faulty but it seems highly unlikely, I've tested for power & ground but not sure how to test the sensor itself.

Cam sensor doesn't usually cause a non-start, the crank sensor can though.  As Isetta says, it measures the difference between cam and crank so although you haven't got a crank fault code, I'd definitely check that next...

Edit - Hang on...what happened when it broke down?  Is it possible the cambelt snapped?  Or was the engine still running when you first got the cam sensor fault code?

The car has started since but only a handful of times, if I turn it off and try to restart it, it won't start again.

Ah, at least that rules out a snapped belt then.

The crank sensor is at the bottom of the engine block, behind the crank pulley, just above the sump if you want to check that next.

So there's a possibility the crank sensor is broke but forscan is saying cam sensor instead?

I just watched a YouTube video that looked similar to my issue, they changed the crank sensor and it started but they did they they'd scanned it and it came up crank sensor, mines never said crank sensor. Also the video showed taking the belt & pulley off, is this necessary because the poor Haynes manual doesn't mention it.

You'd need the pulley off to change the sensor, but the plug is easily accessible to check with a multimeter without removing anything more than a splash guard.

I managed to get the sensor off the other car just by dropping the cover, I did think at first the pulley needed to come off, if I need to take the pulley off that's fine as long as it's not raining 😂

Ah, well that's a bonus, lets hope it's just as easy on yours.

Changed the crank shaft sensor, cleared codes, car still wouldn't start, frp sensor code came up, cleared that, car wouldn't start and forscan no longer wants to connect but my Bluetooth cheapy from ebay connects to torque fine.

Got forscan to reconnect now I'm getting P0194 but only now and then, sometimes it won't start, no codes, then it won't start with P0194.  Any chance it's a fuel issue now, annoyingly they took the hand pump for the fuel off on this model, the fuel pressure sensor is on the same line as the hand pump so can I just fit the lines / sensor & pump off the previous model?

Any idea if I can put this Ford part on my car to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, frp sensor and hand primer. Ford part no 1501910

I don't know if it's a straight swap for the Mk7.

However, FRPS and cam sensor are both on the round plug you had issues with before aren't they?  Sure it's not that again?

(At least I think it was you...apologies if not haha!)

It was me, hell of a memory, I've kept the top off the air filter cover so I can mess with that plug, if that plugs being a 🤬 though it usually throws a few codes up at once, for example an injector or 2 plus frp / cam, it's never been just 1 code.  I feel like it's just not getting fuel but last time I had this problem I lent a pump to pull the fuel through, if it comes to it I'll lend a pump Monday.  This seems to suggest both the hand pump version and the pump less version are compatible but if someone more knowledgeable could confirm it'd be appreciated 😂

Is it worth trying a can of ez start (if that's even what it's called?) just to see if it is a fuel issue and see if that gets the pump to bring fuel up.

  • Author

It started with easy start and ran fine but as soon as I turned it off it wouldn't start again without easy start.

I've ordered the pipe with the hand pump, hopefully it's the FRP sensor, my local garage said it could be the injectors but they're not showing a code, is there a way to see what the injectors are doing in forscan to see if one is under or over performing.

It doesn't sound like injectors tbh.  The PCM won't allow the injectors to fire until they see enough fuel pressure.

It's odd it'll keep running once started on easystart but then fails to start again after.   Does suggest it's not an air in fuel issue either. :g:

If it's rolling when it cuts out it'll start again, but if it's parked it won't, on the way to the garage it cut out a few times but I was able to restart it.

Hmm, will definitely be interested in the solution to this one!
