  • It's right near the cam sprocket, top left as you look at the engine, held in with a single Torx screw.

  • Just been to pick my nephews car up after his mot, they had a fiesta there going for scrap and let me take the crank sensor, hopefully this'll get me going again but unfortunately it's not the weather

  • It was me, hell of a memory, I've kept the top off the air filter cover so I can mess with that plug, if that plugs being a 🤬 though it usually throws a few codes up at once, for example an injector o

It's as if the easy start is getting it running enough to pull the fuel through, same as when it cuts out while rolling, the fuel pump on these isn't electric is it so easy start is getting it going then the pumps kicking in?

I've taken some bits off but still can't see anything obvious. IMG_20200817_102320.thumb.jpg.a65b6d03d689b9765cf35235a44c3588.jpg

Yep that’s the engine

Does sound like a genuine fuel pressure issue.  I'm guessing you clutch bumped it while on the move as that'll keep the HP pump spinning, it's purely mechanical as you say.

Starting to sound like the HP pump is at fault tbh, though that's obviously not a quick or cheap fix.  I'd probably try another fuel filter as the next easiest thing.

Surprised no-one else has offered any suggestions so far!

I'm offended no one else has offered any suggestions 😂, no out of gear, ignition off, ignition on.  It just started 5 times in a row then nothing 😂

Even more weird then...the HP pump won't be pressurising fuel when rolling out of gear.  So there's really no reason that rolling should make any difference!

Time to burn it and claim the insurance... :whistling:

I like the way you think.

Hopefully the new pipe comes tomorrow with the hand primer pump and FRP sensor and that solves the issue, if not I'll put a new fuel filter in, if that still doesn't work, I'm lost.

Assuming I've done this right, injectors seem fine

Pipe arrived today, no sensor and the sensor isn't even the FRP sensor anyway it's the fuel temp sensor, car will probably be going for scrap now.

Just put the battery back on after charging it, car started first time, tried it a few times, kept starting, then I let it run for a bit, gave it some revs eventually got a code and it cut out... Today's code is P0643

Unplugged the fuel temperature sensor and it started first time and ran smooth, thought I was on to something, plugged it back in and it was reluctant to start then ran rough and was banging, unplugged the sensor and the same thing happened, rough & banging. Really lost what to try next now I was thinking fuel temp sensor but now I'm leaning towards a new crank shaft sensor in case the one I pulled off the other car was dead too.

I don't live on here mate!  Oh wait...

Honestly, I'm not sure what to suggest myself.  I'm still not convinced that it isn't a wiring fault.  The fact you keep getting different fault codes and they all seem to be intermittent doesn't make for a simple diagnosis.

Is there a PID in Forscan to check cam and crank synchronisation?  I know there is in the Peugeot version (PP2K) as the old 2.0 HDi's had failed crank sensors quite often!

I don't think fuel temp is a major PCM input, it certainly shouldn't be enough to cause a non-start.  Can't remember anyone on here having to replace a fuel temp sensor on a DV engine.

Have you tried a new filter yet?

Also, all the Mk7's have EasyFuel don't they?  So you can't have accidentally put petrol in it?  (Just clutching at straws now ha!)

I don't think there's a cam & crank sync pid but I'll look again, I do think the crank sensor I took off the other car may have been dodgy but I'm not sure.

Fuel rail pressure sensor is a dealer only part, rang Ford.... £500! I don't know if the guy was looking at the wrong part or if Ford are drunk!

It comes as part of the rail assembly I think.  You can buy them separately on ebay though.

Fuel temp sensor I meant, I've seen the pressure sensors on ebay but not the temp.

  • Author

I can't see it being the temp sensor but I'm out of ideas at this point, I really think it'll be going for scrap.

When he said £500 I thought I may have said pressure instead of temp, so I asked " can you give me a price on the fuel temperature sensor too", he said "that's it".

The rail and pressure sensor costs about £500...I wouldn't trust the parts guy to know what he's on about tbh...

The temp sensor only seems to come as part of the pipework with the primer for around £200.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Fiesta-Mk5-Fusion-1-4-Duratorq-TDCi-Diesel-Fuel-Line-Tube-1501910/272376787574?hash=item3f6aebf276:g:274AAOSwsG9edQ2L

I can't find the part number for the non-primer version so far.

I bought a pipe like that, thought it'd make sense to add the primer if I'm messing with the fuel system... Didn't come with the sensor 😂 I don't even know what the sensor looks like but I'm assuming if I take my sensor out to get a part number diesel will go everywhere.

Maybe you don't have a sensor then?

Is this your pipework? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Fuel-Injector-Supply-Tube-1747244/273081985301?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225076%26meid%3Db470fc0386884cb0ada82d92e962368f%26pid%3D100667%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D8%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D273081985301%26itm%3D273081985301%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2334524%26brand%3DFord&_trksid=p2334524.c100667.m2042

I don't think so... I definitely have a sensor, I unplugged it 😂
