  • It's right near the cam sprocket, top left as you look at the engine, held in with a single Torx screw.

  • Just been to pick my nephews car up after his mot, they had a fiesta there going for scrap and let me take the crank sensor, hopefully this'll get me going again but unfortunately it's not the weather

  • It was me, hell of a memory, I've kept the top off the air filter cover so I can mess with that plug, if that plugs being a 🤬 though it usually throws a few codes up at once, for example an injector o

I don't think so... I definitely have a sensor, I unplugged it 😂

So you unplugged it, but don't know what it looks like?

Can you post a close up of it?

Oh, good spot, I didn't notice that!

I unplugged the wiring but didn't actually take the sensor out of the pipe 😂

Lol, fair point!  So, do we think that non-primer pipework is the correct one for your car?

  • Author

Yes but I also think the primer pipe work will work too.

  • Author

If you look at 9d350 on this link both primer and non primer pipes are listed.

Both are listed but the connections look different on the actual ads so I'm not sure.

Regardless of that though, it seems the sensor can only be bought as part of the piping from Ford (at a cost of £85, not £500! ) but if it's just a generic sensor, you might be able to pull a manufacturer part number from it (Siemens, VDO, etc).  The number should be somewhere visible if there is one, you shouldn't have to remove it from the pipework.

  • Author

I'm assuming the sensor will be the same on both versions of the pipe, the pipe I ordered should've come with the sensor so hopefully I'll be sent it, if not I'll order another one with the sensor on.

  • Author

If I leave the fuel temp sensor unplugged it starts so as unlikely as it seems it has to be the fuel temp sensor, hopefully they actually send me one tomorrow that they should've sent with the pipes.

Fuel temp sensor done nothing, going to put a new crank shaft sensor in and pray.

  • Author

Put the new crank sensor in today and now it's just taking the *****!

I'm leaning again to the connector in the engine bay playing a part but I've unplugged, contact cleanered it and reassembled countless times.

@TomsFocuswhen forscan started saying a/c pressure sensor I knew the car was taking the p***, it drove better after the new crank sensor but still threw up codes, mainly a/c & frp, messed around with the plug again and at least for now it seems to be running fine but there's not really anyway of securing the poorly designed plug that locks in but then rattles loose so I may end up cutting the plugs off and bullet crimping the wires.

Good to hear it's running at least.

Very annoying though as you can't really trust it.

The retaining notch is missing on one side (engine side) with the car in pieces I was able to pull the connector apart and look at both sections, if it comes to it I'll pick up a second hand engine loom but I expect it to be a PITA job to do.

You might be able to buy a new plug for it though it could take some searching!

These types of plug are usually just push-fit and can be popped apart with a thin screwdriver.  Then you can remove the centre piece and pull each spade connector out of it.  Then just reverse on the new one.  It's simple but fiddly.  I've done it with a few small 2 wire plugs (ABS/pad wear sensors generally!) but never anything that big lol.

It'd be a lot easier to buy a new engine loom but I can't see it being easy to fit, unfortunately the plug is broke on the engine side and the loom seems to be moulded rubber, if it was the other side of the look it'd be easy to replug.

Electric scooters seem to be all the rage round here now!

Would you be in a position to buy a newer car?  Assuming not, swapping engine looms isn't as hard as it looks, plugs are all different so you can't mix them up (99% of the time anyway lol).  The only difficult part is the access for the thick central parts of the loom.  I think it's run along the back of these engines as well, just to make things more awkward!

Your idea of bullet connectors isn't necessarily a bad one...I don't know if they're good enough for engine wiring though as everything relies on ECU feedback.  A poor connection with a little extra resistance could cause more issues.

Not at the moment, I'm on statutory sick pay for having the cheek to be crashed into in work when I wasn't moving! (in a picker truck not my car) Whiplash, concussion & a non fault injury is rewarded with SSP.

Well, that sucks.

This is my temporary fix until I can find a replacement loom.

Well the cable tie didn't work so I've started looking for a new / used loom, what's confusing me though is the looms I'm finding are just for glow plugs, fuel temp & injectors but I'm getting a/c & fuel rail pressure errors. If it's just glow plugs, injector & fuel temp it's easy to fit but why would FRP & A/C errors come up? Maybe cranking with no start is throwing fuel pressure errors up but a/c?
