Hello guys again.

Just an update.

My replacement key barrel "cable" release has broken for a year of use.

Any pro's and con's about the plastic rod key barrel system...?

Biggest con is it's a piece of sh*t!! It's the flimsiest thing I have ever seen. Ordered one because it was cheap, sent it back on day of arrival to get proper cable replacement! Coincidentally, my 2 x eBay 'cable' replacements both just lasted 6 months each. This very week, I fitted a genuine Ford part from a breaker, we'll see how long that lasts. By the way, Ford Parts want nearly £100 for a cable!!

Temporarily, a 250mm 5mm flathead screwdriver will work, but it won't pass an MOT.

Barmy!

I was at TCH Ford in Derby last week and said £100.

I'll buy another Cable version on eBay for now...

while on the same subject...

I came across one of these on ebay...

But it may sound too much messing about trying to fit a actual key barrel to it some how...???

I too looked at these, and on the premise that I had no idea how it worked, gave it a bypass LOL

Have looked at that too, unfortunately for me the £70 is a DIY solution, I am no DIYer so it would be financially crippling for me to pay someone to do that, but I always wish that Ford had have put that in the first place!

Same temporary fix on mine passed about the last 6 years of MOTs, never seen my tester show much interest in looking under the hood.

In NI, not being able to open the bonnet via a 'factory' style method is a fail. (A screwdriver will not suffice LOL) MOT centers here are dedicated government run establishments, they always check under the hood!
