I get it, you love them. 😂 I've never said they're a bad car, just why the hell is the government involved in mandating their sales?? If they were that good, consumers would be flocking to them organically in their droves, they ain't, so what are the government afraid of?

We, Orkney council, are getting a couple of electric dustcarts on loan/assessment! Apparently they have a 60 mile/500 pack range. I would assume that the range is the very best that they could achieve ie no radio/wipers/demisting etc

Watch this space 🤔

Never realised that Orkney weather was that good you never needed wipers 😁

I wouldn't say I love them, or any car I've owned in 44 years. But it is a good car for my needs. There's a natural tendency to be wary any of new tech, that with limited choice in the beginning. Now there' more choice in the new and used market. Still not enough but thats a gradual process. The used market ( which majority of people buy, not new) is increasing EV sales as ex lease vehicles come onto the used market. More lease vehicles as private consumers now PCP, lease for X amount no different to a smartphone.

I only got my 1st smartphone 3 years ago, and that was only because I couldn't get my old Nokia repaired 🤣

I can completely understand the need for eliminating brake pad particle shedding when the material contained asbestos. But, modern pad materials are not the same thing at all. We are really down to the point of ridiculousness in terms of what is emitted or shed from the modern automobile. It is now a matter of people who just despise cars and or the idea of personal mobility in general that are the primary driver’s of this initiative. Public policy is generally shaped by a small number of very committed people and groups. That they are committed doesn’t necessarily mean that they are correct or motivated by unbiased or slanted views.

I haven't checked the accuracy of this statement , so just take it how you will.

How does brake dust impact my health?

When these tiny metal particles are emitted into the air, we breath them into our lungs. When these particles react with sulphate rich particles in the air, they create a toxic aerosol. This aerosol can damage our lungs and create respiratory problems.2 In the UK, the term “London Throat,” is used when a person experiences a froggy throat and chronic cough caused by brake dust pollution.3 More seriously, additional impacts include contributing to pneumonia and bronchitis and destroying white blood cells, a critical part of the immune system.

There’s also plenty of human dander, hair, animal hair and dander, rubber , that aforementioned brake dust along with any combination of the full array of wild animal and bird ***** that have become particalized as it breaks down. Don’t forget that insects also die and defficate right out in Gods wide open spaces. Toss in a good percentage of airborne topsoil and the bacteria contained therein as long as we are building a toxic soup. I don’t understand how we should even consider going outside. It’s always going to be something that is said to be an imminent threat to life and limb.
I suppose I could just take a few deep pulls off my big jug of laundry detergent that claims to “deodorize and  disinfect” but I’m pretty sure it’s going to make me sick or unalive.

Don't forget the straw that's blowing around also you can't manage to clutch 🤣🤣🤣

It's very rare, but lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles can catch fire.

Well I'll be jiggered !!!

Who would have thought there could be any kind of issue with an EV ?

India is pushing to get its trains to net zero by the end of the decade. It could be a model for the U.S.

Will that stop the idiots that ride on the carriage roofs of the over crowded trains.

Think you might have read that wrong.

"India will be pushing its trains by the end of the decade" 🤣

Sick of heavy electric SUVs and crossovers? Ariel debuts the E-Nomad.
With enough interest, the "seriously clean fun" concept could go into production.

EV startups shut down

Oh no !!!

This isn't going to be the new "my Stop/Start doesn't work" EV replacement thread 🙄

I should have wandered over to the back edge of the Ford headquarters parking area during my recent visit to a car show there and taken a picture of the huge numbers of F150 Lightning trucks that were parked deep and wide inside the overflow parking lot. No doubt, as a reminder of how well this particular version is not selling. Any middle to upper management with a window view of the north lots is not going to be able to ignore the view.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying this slow realisation from the public how governments all over have simply duped them. Though maybe it will endure a healthy cynicism of 'government' which can only be good...

You missed the perceived bit in that statement.

Yep, here it is:

"The main perceived barriers remain range, access to charging points, and cost to purchase," he said.

He added: "Current EV drivers are, however, highly satisfied, with 80 percent strongly advocating EVs to their friends, with the only material source of their complaint being out-of-home charging that is hard to find, hard to pay for, slow, or broken."
