Foam Piece in air box

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I was changing my air filter today and noticed a little foam pad thing on the left, misted in oil,  upon googling it seems its something to do with the pcv system? Could someone shed some light on its purpose please... and is it worth replacing? I cleaned it off as it has some debris on it but I just put it back as I didn't know what it was for. I have found the £6 part from rates ford on eBay so might replace if necessary.

any advice would be appreciated 🙂

thanks

Yep, it filters the air bleeding off from the pcv.

The oil comes from what is termed blow-by and is normal as long as it's not excessive.

ok i think ive fitted a genuine ford one correctely. but there was a lot of oil in there..can someone please explain why and what the foam does? thanx

The oil vapour gets sucked from the top of the cam cover.  It's meant to separate 'liquid' oil from vapour, but isn't a particularly effective system.  The foam just stops the rest of the airbox and paper filter getting coated in oil.
