Ford Fiesta 1.0T Ecoboost Titanium X 2013 questions (Newbie)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I hope all of you are safe and well.  I want to apologise in advance for any noob questions as being Nissan owners, we know very little about Ford vehicle.  My partner has recently bought our very first Ford Fiesta 1.0T Ecoboost Titanium X (2013) and regrettably she didn't check everything and simply trusted the previous owner.  Here's some of our questions:-

1. When we put the car in reverse, although the parking sensors beep, I'm sure that it's supposed to show a top-view diagram of a car to help guide you visually.  But this car shows nothing.  Is there any reason for this?  FYI, it has a Sony Radio if that helps.

2. The vehicle seems to feel very rough when driving on normal roads and going over bumps is very harsh and we don't know why.  A few things to note are that it has 17" tyres/alloys and last mot gave advisory of "Nearside Front Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))".  Could any of these be the reasons or is it something else?

3.  The car has a keyless system and it is unlockable upon approach.  But we prefer it that we rather enable/disable arming the car via our keys, so it is possible that we can disable the "upon approach" system?

4. Where can we get long-lasting batteries for the keys and are we able to replace them ourselves?

5. The car's Sony radio, seems to only allow one mobile connection, but is there any way of adding more than one?

6. The vehicle gives me approx 400 miles on motorway per full tank - I expected more miles for a 1-litre engine, but would be grateful if any owners or experts can verify that this is right.

Thank you very much for all your help.

This would cause a knocking noise when going over bumps, but wouldn't necessarily cause a harsh ride.

Yes, but I don't think you can use more than one phone at once. I don't know of any Bluetooth systems that allow that tbh.

Thanks very much for clarifying and helping me with this Luke.

It might be worth getting the car checked in mot to see if the arm ball could be the reason.    Could there be any other reason?

I have an Kenwood stereo in my other vehicle and that allows 2 mobiles to connect at the same time, but I guess we can't have everything.

Sorry, I have added another question to my OP: The vehicle gives me approx. 400 miles on motorway per full tank - I expected more miles for a 1-litre engine, but would be grateful if any owners or experts can verify that this is right.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with the questions.

Thanks again.

Hi and welcome.

1, has it got factory fitted sensors or the aftermarket ones that the dealers can fit, only the factory ones will bring the screen display on.

2, 17” wheels won’t give the most comfortable ride but a worn bush won’t help,

3, does it really unlock on approach? On all mine you have to press the button on the handle to unlock. You don’t have to use the handle buttons if you don’t want to, just use the key fob.

4, anywhere that sells batteries, try a get known brand and maybe avoid online sales, check the date of manufacture. Yes you can change them yourself.

5, we have 2 phones  and an iPod connected, one is set as the master but if I’m playing music from my ipad and a call comes in the phone takes over.

6, doesn’t sound too bad, it’s over 40mpg depends what type of driving you do, how you drive and the winter will affect it.

if you haven’t got one you can view the manual here

The battery is a "CR2032" only use Duracell or Panasonic and buy them from a decent electrical shop, expect to pay about £2.50 Do not buy from places like poundland.

Hi Mark and thanks so much for the warm welcome and assisting me with my questions.

1.  I don't know whether the sensors are factory fitted or aftermarket ones.  How can I confirm this and if it was the case that the vehicle has been fitted with aftermarket sensors, where do I get factory sensors from again?

2. Are worn bushes the same as Arm Ball joint?

3. Apologies for not clearly explaining, but your right that it doesn't unlock automatically, but you could say that the security disarms upon approach and then the door button can be manually pressed to unlock.  Just worried that living in an area where car theft is high, that if this "approach" type of security failed, we wouldn't know about it if the car got disarmed.

4. That's really appreciated.  Thank you.  Do you know how long the keyfob on average lasts and does the car give any warning if the battery is low? Sorry, being old-school, I'm not familiar with this sort of technology and my biggest worry is that we travel a long distance and the car breaks down/won't start due to a dead battery keyfob.  Can such a thing happen and is there a manual way of overriding this?

5. Just to clarify, we do have a number of phones setup on the system, but only one is connectable at a time.  How do you set a phone/bluetooth device to be the master?

6. I thought that a 1.0T Ecoboost can do approach 70mpg on motorways?  The car was driven on motorway with cruise control enabled most of the way.  Here's what Autotrader shows:

No. There's quite a number of bushes on the suspension.

Those mpg figures are based on lab conditions, it's very hard to reach them in the real world. As said above 40mpg isn't unreasonable for the 1.0L ecoboost. The more you're using the turbo, the more fuel you'll use.

Factory sensors have a chunkier bezel, aftermarket sensors tend to be flatter

factory in 1st picture

the sensors that detect the fibs are short range, upto 2m. Invest in a faraday pouch for the fob when not in use, this would prevent relay theft which is common on keyless cars especially Fiestas.

when pairing a device it usually asks if you want to make it the master, swapping between devices is done by the four buttons at the bottom of the Sony unit, there function is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks ever so much Luke and Mark.

Bushes - Is it expensive to repair/replace bushes?

Fuel usage - I totally agree with you that if those are lab conditions, then I 'll leave it for now and see how it runs locally and give you an update.  Hopefully it'll work out good.  So long as I can get around 250-300 miles locally, I'll be happy with that.

Sony Stereo & Mobile Phones - I'll try this and let you know how I get on.

Keyless - Thank you.  I'm happy with the solution of a Faraday Pouch.

Parking Sensors - Looks like, your spot-on and the seller has not told her that the car was fitted with after-market sensors.  So I'm wondering where can I buy the genuine factory sensors cheaply from, how much would they cost and are they difficult to fit if it was a DIY job?  I don't mind if they're used, so long as they will bring back the car display.

Motorway driving with same engine I get an average of 55 mpg.

I average about 42mpg in my 2019 1.0- 400 miles to a tank is about right!

There is no way you would ever get 70mpg.

You have to remember they only have a 45 litre fuel tank.

  • Author

@Bobr Is that for the same vehicle?  Sounds really good.

@dtulip8 Thanks for clarifying this.

@Hackney Yes you guys are right.  The reason for my confusion, is because our previous vehicle had 55ltrs of tank, whereas the Fiesta only has 45ltrs tank,  hence the Fiesta is giving me approx same mileage as previous vehicle, so is definitely more economical.

You guys have been brilliant and I've also resolved the issue with the Sony radio and Bluetooth phones, so now my only issue is with the parking sensors, so any advise on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I’d look for a used bumper with sensors on eBay, might be able to find one the same colour to either fit or swap the parts over, would then need to be programmed on either by ford or someone who can use the Forscan programme.

This has the part numbers on if you want to try a Ford dealer or eBay for new parts

Hello

Hope you like your new car. I have the same but mine is a 2014 '64' plate. here are my answers to your questions:

1. I don't have the same issues with my sensors but then again I have a rear view camera as well but that only came standard from July 2014 I think. Looking at the pricelist from January 2013 factory sensors were optional but they came with front sensors as well. I have attached the pricelist for you to look at. (options on page 3). When was your car registered in 2013?

2. I have the same 17" wheels but I don't find the ride 'hard'. I just find the wheels are very easy to kerb!!!!

3. Like someone has said before it only only recognises the key from 2M but I agree with the Faraday pouch as it gives extra protection from thieves.

4. I bought my car in May 2017 and I have only had to change the batteries in both keys once.

5. I only have 1 mobile connected so can't comment on that.

6. As people have said before ignore the official mpg figures. You will struggle getting near them. I only do stop/start driving in town so the engine doesn't get up to any normal temperature and I am averaging 31.1 but that fuel economy is the only gripe I have about the car.

Hope this helps

Good helpful answers here...

I think I can only add that the car dashboard will tell you when the fob needs a new battery, and then you've got several weeks to get around to replacing it.

Ride comfort is so subjective.  I find a Focus/Golf on 17s to be too hard on 17s, let alone a Fiesta!  But most people either don't notice or don't care...it's really not something you can judge through others reviews.

Be very careful with Faraday pouches.   I've had two and both stopped working.   I now keep my keys in a Faraday box overnight.   If you use a pouch test it occasionally by trying to open the car with the key in the pouch.   I was rather taken aback when the first one allowed the car to open.

No it's a 42 litre tank.

In terms of the harsher ride, the Titanium's have a slightly stiffer suspension compared to the Zetec and the 17 inch alloys don't allow the tyre to absorb as much if the bumps and vibration, in terms of fuel usage, ify our driving at 70mph on the motorway, be prepared for lower MPG especially on e10, with the parking sensors, having got the ford ones on mine, they are pretty rubbish it takes literally a small bit of dirt to stop them working your better off fitting an aftermarket reverse camera, far more useful. You will e able to connect more than one phone, but only one will be able to be connected for Bluetooth audio. I have a 1.25L petrol Zetec and I am averaging on motorways 42-44 MPG (not being stupid with acceleration and driving at 60 MPH Speedo indicated)

Correct. For some unknown reason I had 45 in my head.

Who would want to ‘steal’ a Fiesta?Thats the last car I would go for!

Well fiesta is very high on the list of most stolen vehicles in the UK

That stands to reason I guess as it is literally #1 seller.Still would not waste my time stealing one.

They steal them to sell the parts from, From the ST, bumpers, skirts, wheels, lights, seats couple of hours work could get at least £1500 on eBay or Facebook groups. Yes there are “better” cars out there but, the fiesta is probably the quickest and easiest to make money from.
