What will you buy instead of a Ford?

I find the response of, "I want to speak to a human..." usually gets you through to an actual person...

Sometimes, pressing the hash key 5 - 10 times works.

  • There are plenty of alternatives. All have a zero emissions rating and the propulsion unit can be charged overnight.

  • Just waiting for Ford to make a decent EV then I'll buy it. I've had Fords for the last 55yrs so I'm not going to change now.

I can tell you an EV will never sit on my driveway, I'd rather take the bus.  Thankfully I've always driven 10-30 year old cars and will continue to do so, so for me not much will change. My only

Use to work 5+ years ago, many phone systems are now more 'sophisticated' using 'voice recognition' software...

Yep. Those sort of things usually work for me also.

Of course (and this was the crux of my story) you have to have the wit to realise it's a bot you're talking to in the first place!

I have a mk8 civic as well as my fiesta. Had a focus as well in the past.

I like all the cars. And recently bought a mk6 fiesta for my brother as his first car.

No issues with Fords at all. Reliable and easy to work on. Parts a peanuts as well.

Id happily buy another ford.

Noticed a lot of posts recently on the lines of "this will be my last Ford", I'm not buying another Ford" etc.

Just wondering what people will be going for instead?😀

There are a few current and previous models of which I've absolutely zilch experience . There's still that tug of 'staying with the brand you know' or used to know when you 'had the feel' of your car (without a light appearing on the console threatening Fire & Brimstone if you didn't attend to it immediately) since the days of the Sierra/Sapphire and even up to the Mk1 Focus for reliability .

My attention has been drawn to Volvo's V70 , V50 , , Landrover's Disco 4 and 5 , Jeep's Renegade and then I think of Ford's current Mondeo , Edge and Kuga and start asking myself if I'm just bringing about more grief even though I like my Mk3 Estate despite the er , 'niggles' ...

Were you meaning Ian or the other guy?😀

Perhaps he's just an employee of Wallwork Truck Center, Kenworth and Ford truck dealers, as per the link in the post? Or maybe he is a bot working for them?

They are easy to find parts for and cheap to fix.

I do not think that any 4-cylinder 1.5 EcoBoost engine owner who needs to fork out GBP 12.000 to have the engine replaced would agree with this.

Ford has good engines.

Another statement that many 1.0 EcoBoost and 2.0 EcoBlue owners will probably have a different opinion on.

Unfortunately, those times are long gone. With its current strategy and model range I would be surprised if Ford will still be in the European passenger car business over 15 Years.

It is quite sad, but currently Ford seems to be rapidly destroying what it has built up over the last 50 years.

I said at work probably 3 or 4 years ago that ford will only be doing vans/pickups in the next few years. And i stand by that statement from back then.

They'll have to develop something more reliable than the 2.0 EcoBlue engine to even keep the commercial customers coming back IMO.

It seems that Ford also has quite a challenge on that front. They kept using the Stellantis HDI engines which do not particularly have a good name. Many people regret buying a vehicle with these engines and will not buy another one.

On the other hand, Ford seems to be doing well with the F-Max and F-Line heavy duty trucks. These have a 12.7 Ecotorq engine which is developed and manufactured in-house.

This has proven that Ford is still capable to develop and manufacture their own Diesel engines. I cannot understand why Ford does not develop their own Diesel engine for their commercial vans instead of using the Stellantis crap.

Do not see that happening in the near future. What is currently happening is that independent contractors and small business simply avoid the environmental zones. Instead of switching to EV they keep buying new Diesel powered commercial vans and simply reject jobs/clients located in an environmental zone.

Finding a craftsman who is willing to perform a job in an environmental zone is more and more becoming a challenge. The very few that invested in EV commercial vans charge excessive labor rates to earn back their investments. Their order books are filled so they can charge whatever they want. I have seen plasterers and carpenters charge an even higher hourly rate than a lawyer.

In addition to courier firms, the local council, etc,  I'm actually seeing quite a few independent businesses adopt EVs. As you might expect, this is especially the case with electricians, particularly those who do solar panel, EV charger, etc, installation.

We sending out a variety of EV transit vans, custom vans  ,chassis cabs, tippers and skeleton chassis for conversion. . The postman pat courier EV is popular.

So there are businesses out there that are able to make them work . Obvious the likes of DHL DPD have had a lot.

As for stelantis and ford, they are becoming a rarity in the UK. The transit connect van is a VW in disguise with the VW diesel, petrol plugin hybrid. Connect courier as already mentioned is EV , ecoboost petrol or stelantis diesel( which we don't see many of.

Custom uses the eco blue diesel , petrol hybrid plug in and EV. All three variants are popular.
