What will you buy instead of a Ford?

That's what strikes me as a potential downside, given that I do a lot of driving in hilly areas and very little on flat major roads.

Max torque on the 186 Mazda is, I think, 240nm @ 4,000 rpm, whereas the 1.5 turbos from, say VW group or Hyundai/Kia produce less bhp (150-160) but a bit more torque from a lot lower rpm (1500rpm or so).

It’s geared lower than a typical turbo, but you will still have to work the box more. That’s a good thing to some though.

I came very close to replacing my ST for the 3 skyactiv x 186 last year.  The thought of a “last hurrah” for a well engineered manual with NA engine that still returns good mpg is quite appealing.

  • There are plenty of alternatives. All have a zero emissions rating and the propulsion unit can be charged overnight.

  • Just waiting for Ford to make a decent EV then I'll buy it. I've had Fords for the last 55yrs so I'm not going to change now.

I can tell you an EV will never sit on my driveway, I'd rather take the bus.  Thankfully I've always driven 10-30 year old cars and will continue to do so, so for me not much will change. My only

Yeah but the gearbox is so good it makes that task quite addictive, found myself changing up and down for the sake of it a couple of time 🙂

The decent mpg was one of my main reasons for choosing it. I need something I like driving and is comfortable enough for 350 + miles per week and need to get over 50mpg.

I couldn't find anything else that fitted that bill, tried the Golf but didn't like the handling and the mpg was more in the low 40mpg region.

Would love to get me this one day. Saving up first for a property though but hopefully next year could get it if circumstances don't change 😁

What happened to your Fiesta? 😉

Sadly sold it back in November. The stupid ULEZ zone in London extended in 25th of October and my workplace is just in the new zone so sadly sold it.

Had a Citroen C1 for a few months then got this 107 for the meantime till I hopefully afford that Porsche one day

My next car might be something complete different to a Fiesta.

A Mazda MX-5.

About 15 years ago I was offered one (Mk2 MB) from a friend and ever since been wondering about buying one. I never liked the look of the Mk3 (NC) but now like the Mk4. Not sure weather to go for the hard topped RF or standard soft-top.

Can you cut hair? 🤣🤣🤣

I quite liked the one Tim and Fuzz did for that guy, yes i cut hair but my own. 🤣

Nope, lol. To you they may be hairdressers cars, but to their owners they are proper drivers cars!

I'd have an MX-5 as the weekend/toy car if I could have a 2 car garage. I got the ST because it needs to be my all-in-one car.

My dad has the ND2, even with the 1.5L it's such a good car to drive.

That's the only thing that concerns me. Could I use one every day (daily driver)? and/or weekends away.  I'm sure people do, they just take less luggage/shopping.

My dad uses his for his daily commute, but they use my mum's Kuga when travelling any distance, moving things, etc.

The MX-5 could do the distance, but they need to take the dog!

We had an MX5 in college one day...I was amazed how small it was inside.  I'm only 6ft!  Also very low to get in & out.  That was an old one though, Mk1 I think, newer ones might be bigger.

Also sat in a brand new Fiat Spider at a car show a few years ago.  Again, basically sat on the floor...and the seats were really uncomfortable in that too.  Felt like a bit of leather stuck straight over a plastic seat!

I like the idea of a roadster, but don't think I could ever daily one.

My brother had an MGBGT, went to Stockport in it to an MG spares place. Frightened the life outta me how close we were to lorry wheel nuts.

I wonder what's going on generally with quality issues? Parts shortages are perhaps understandable - Covid aftermath, Ukraine crisis, etc - but that doesn't explain why they can't put the things together properly when they DO get the parts.

Not just Ford either - lurking round other forums I see similar comments about various makes, though in the case of Audi/VW/Skoda/Seat it's mostly down to software issues. (Reject my Car, the consumer advocate firm, have stated that VW Group cars account for more than half the software related complaints they handle).

Judging where people say they are going, Hyundai/Kia, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki and even MG must be delighted.

When it comes that i need to change i would mainly look for one i can get in and out a bit easier (higher up) back not the best.

If a car i would look at the seat Ibiza sport, know a few who had them and still got and good reviews.

I had a Honda CRV for a while, yes i know not a new car, new to me, expensive to run but i physically had to climb up to get in. Gave a sense of importance and a much imroved view of the road ahead.

Pushbike and a boat.🤣

If I plan to change my car, then I would prefer an Audi or Toyota model. These cars inspire confidence in me, and my friends, owning these cars, do not complain about any problems at all.

Toyota’s are pretty well bulletproof, stay away from anything manufactured by the VW group. You will have very little(if any) issues with anything from the Toyota range.VW is on the nose here in Australia, they are  not good to deal with.Anything Japanese or Korean is the way to go.

I'm in lust. I saw one of the new "black" cabs yesterday and although still boxy i love the styling, very old school range rover-ish. Then i googled up the prices tobuy and lease, even for an EV the prices are extortionate and way beyong most people reach.

Well, one of my friends (who is renowned for talking about changing his car for ages before he actually does it) has finally made a move.

Called me yesterday to say he had put a deposit down on a VW T-Roc 1.5TSI manual. He's a long term Ford driver (though currently in a Volvo V40 - Focus based anyway.) Wanting a slightly higher seating position, he'd been looking at a Puma fairly seriously but wasn't in love with the looks and delivery times we know about.

So he looked at the T-Roc, liked it, the dealer actually had one in stock in a colour and spec he was happy with, so he went for it.

I had a 2005 Passat and a 2009 Sharan. Can't say that either was particularly problem-free (although nothing that made them undriveable). But these are now old cars, of course, so that doesn't help you decide... BUT the big difference compared with other makes was the service from the VW dealer which was extremely good.

When I took one for a test drive prior to purchasing the Focus it was really comfy (R line spec) 1.6 diesel though, part of me still says I should of tried the 2.0 litre version.

Nowadays as we don't do many longer trips the petrol would make more sense but has the issue of kangaroo been resolved in the 1.5tsi ?
