Build is for forum member Paulkp who kindly gave me the kit, anyone know more about this Q8 version I'm all ears.

Long out of production kit and most likely never be produced again.

Not the usual plastic type of kit as this is an all white metal kit with photo etched parts - Rubber tyres - Seat belts - Mudflaps - Vac formed windows.

Still got to find out the correct colour blues & beige to use, instructions show car paint codes which are Fiat, which I've no idea at all!

Cleaned up all the metal parts which went well, the spotted a little line in the roof of the body, this line turned out to be a single brush hair, most likely the maker used a paint brush to dust out the moulds but didn't see the lone hair, pouring the metal entombed the hair in the metal, since got that out and filled the recess with superglue.

  • Disappointed to see they're just sold in mm.  Thought he'd have to look for a proper scaled down size...  6/55/0.3 for example.

  • Model is now done, not fitted the two roof scoops as they've been wrongly scaled, they are just way too big for the roof, so instead of fitting them I've left them off.

  • That is coming along Ian, and those tins of "Humbrol" are a good indication of the size of the model.  My patience would have expired long ago !

Your attention to detail with that hairline, justifies me not trying to make it and not doing a good job !

Came across a slight issue - The metal top side roll cage bars are too short, so they've got to be ditched and remade out of plastic - One tyre is too wide so I'll have to cut the wider tyre.

Sorted out the tyre which was too wide, the rubber took some slicing but did it.

Working on the tiny seat belts, these are fun to attach to the rear roll cage.

@Ian Lanc do you 3d print? I feel with your eye for detail it could be something quite useful. Bit of a learning curve though I believe 😮

No Kevin, never dabbled in 3D Printing but a friend of mine does all sorts within reason, the stuff he can do blows my mind.....I'll just carry on being old school and make kits & crap :pokey:

Cockpit is done now, looks well with the tiny seat belts.
Outer wheel covers painted nicely with decals applied, these have got to be glued on top of the steel wheel hubs.
Micro surgery roof antenna made.
Removing the tiny PE parts is a right ache in the backside

Next I've got to measure up the axles to get the wheels to fit under the arches, then I'm onto sussing out what blues and ivory is needed for the body.

If your still looking for the body colours, the bottom half ( cream ) looks like the old ivory colour they used on the ford orion, the blue at first in the non light colour looked like state blue, but the brighter picture makes it look more like the vauxhall blue. If that's of any help. Have to say that's 1 ***** nice model to be building 😎👌

Arden blue as its known.

Been to a local model shop, purchased a few different types of blues and a tinlet of white & yellow, I'll have to get mixing the paints to get the colours right, right ballache when the correct colours can't be found in enamels, I've found the correct colours in car paint but can't really use car spray paints as the paint will go on too heavy.......I'll get there.

That's why it takes people like you to do jobs like this 😂 l wouldn't have the patience to do it if l couldn't get the right colours straight off 😂 I'll be nice to see the finished product when your done if the owner is ok with it as in the end it's up to them if they wish for it to be shown 😎👍

As I've got older I've got worse with my model making it has to be more than perfect or I'll just hate the model forever, seeing as the kit is mine now, I don't mind showing the completed model and Paulkp won't mind seeing it either :Jumpy:

Noooooo! The rubber tyres, they are splitting into sections 🙁

This is because the rubber over time  has hardened and has no give, pushing them onto the rims has expanded the rubber which has caused them to split This wasn't evident last week but spotted the cracks this morning, can only fill the cracks with super glue and hope for the best, I've had 80's Tamiya model bikes go the same way which is tragic :scared:

Can you not track down some new tyres ?

For example there seems lots of options available on eBay and similar sites.

Damn! Why didn't I hang on to those old Dinky Toys with no tyres?😡

I've got about 6 Dinky toys from my childhood, all have no tyres, they'd look great with new tyres back on them.

Looking at the tyres on ebay, so far I can't see suitable replacements 😟

Glued up the kit tyres, the glued section can go up in the arch so would be hidden.
