Adam1991
hi all, What insurance are you all with? Im currently with elephant on my rover but ford said for £900 a year id have all this special treatment towards my car like genuine parts to fix it with etc and some other stuff. What kind of insurance should i be looking for?
Stoney871
I use CIS and have done so for 3 years as they have reduced premiums on each renewal and have still come out as better or comparable to other Insurers on comparison sites (even with one No Fault Claim). I would recommend legal cover (so it's easier to reclaim uninsured excess) and windscreen cover. I also get key cover so if I lose my car key (or any others attached to the same bunch as long as their supplied tag is on it) I will only pay a small excess for replacement locks/keys for the car. Phil 87
I'm with Esure at the moment, for me they have been cheapest for my old Titanium and my ST, although had to insure it as modified for Mountune as they don't recognise it. Also added legal cover and protected no claims. For the ST with Mountune it looks like Hastings is the cheapest, I don't know if they're any good though. I've been with them before but never had to make a claim or anything.
Alison79
As above, Esure were cheapest by far for me with the standard ST2 - £180 and that's with protected ncd and £50 excess.
jakeeehh
I was on a black box on my pug206 with the co-op. I wouldn't recommend it but it was cheaper for first time drivers. I'm currently with elephant, it's about £760 for the year on my fez & I'm 20. They offered me a policy where I take out a fast-track policy & at the end I get a years no claims after just 10 months. Then I'd renew with then & get a cheaper premium. Couldn't be bothered with it though. I'd strongly recommend confused.com.
iNath
Also with Esure
JoeZS19
I'm with admiral and have been for the last few years. Always shop around but either admiral, bell or elephant (all the same company) always come out cheapest :) I think it depends where you live, age, drive exp, etc so everyone will probably have different quotes
Adam1991
thanks al, im currently with elephant but have found cheaper quotes on the new car so might just swap over. NOt too sure yet. Ill have a look at Esure too as they sound prett good and when on confused they came out cheapest :)
Ru4hie
Was previously with Diamond, renewal time now and AXA have come up cheapest for me this time around
Stoney871
A lot of insurance companies are linked. Some may have a half dozen trading names online, I'd assume this is so they get a bigger slice of trade from comparison sites.
Philf1
I'm with esure as well. Seems there's a bit of a trend here with ST owners and esure.
Adam1991
Sorry to be such a newbie at this guys, do you all have gap insurance too? or do you just use it as your normal insurance? i dont really understand it! Im with elephant ata bout £60 a month for just normal insurance ... fully comp but do know about gap insurance? should i get it?
MURDY94
Gap insurance basically works like this I think?: Say you have bought a car for £20,000 You're in a crash and the insurance will only pay out £14,700 Gap insurance pays out £5300 The gap insurance pays out the difference in the price you paid for the car and the amount that the insurance company is going to pay out so you don't really lose money on your original purchase price. Phil 87
Some insurance companies include gap insurance, for example I called Esure and they said they would replace the car like-for-like if it's up to a year old, so at the time I thought I don't need to buy gap insurance seperately. On second thoughts maybe I should, does anyone know if like-for-like means I could end up with a 2nd hand car? Maybe I'd better call them and check. Adam1991
I see, so if im with elephant who i believe do not provide gap insurance, should i get gap insurance as well as my current insurance? or jsut go with a company that provides both? Phil 87
It might be easier to buy it seperately because it's hard to tell which insurance companies offer it and what they will do if the car needs replacing. I'll need to get it after I've had the car for a year anyway, maybe sooner if I find out they would replace it with a 2nd hand car, so I'll be looking into it too.
MarksST
Check the policy terms, if your insurers says they will replace your car with a new one fine, if it says like for like then get GAP insurance, as they might try and replace it with a car of the same age milage snd age as yours, they may not take any options into account either. Its a good idea anyway for years 2 and 3, I think you have to take it out within 3 or 6 months if buying the car. Shop around for gap and dont use the dealers, mine was £78 for 2 years with ALA for £15000
Phil 87
mine was £78 for 2 years with ALA for £15000 That's the kind of deal I'll be hoping for, might go for 3 years though. Is the £15,000 the amount they would pay out, so you would have that plus whatever your insurance pays?
MarksST
If only it was like that. The gap makes up the difference between the your insurers payout and the invoice price you paid or the price of a new car . This will be upto £15000 which hopefully the ST wont drop too far after 3 years, so should be fine.
Philf1
Couple of things you need to think about with GAP. 1 you have to take it out within 3 months or so of buying your car. 2 make sure it's replacement cover that way you will get a new car of at least the same spec as yours or an upgrade if no longer available. 3 back to invoice cover will only get you back to the price you paid which could leave you short if you got a deal like through carwow. 4 get 5 year cover and the max amount if you can afford it. £15k means they will give you up to that amount on top of your insurance pay out which should pay for a new car for most of us Hope this helps Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app

Phil 87
I just had another look at GAP isnurance, looks like I might only be able to get return to invoice as the car is just over 3 months old :(. I'll call ALA and see if they can make an exception and let me have replacement cover. Although return to invoice probably isn't so bad, it's a bit cheaper and hopefully the car prices won't go up a lot, or maybe they will? Phil 87
I had to go for back to invoice with ALA, 3 years £15,000 for £120. I don't know why they have this 3 month rule for replacement cover, I mean someone could go to a dealer and buy a 7 year old car and get replacement cover for that, but because I've had my brand new car for 3 months and 2 weeks, I can't . Oh well at least I'm covered.

I'm just approaching 3months and not got mine yet so I guess I'll have to get it done sharpish to get replacement cover.
